A. Insurance against a catastrophic financial cost.

B. Help with doctors visits and prescriptions and cap catastrophic loss but doubt that happens.

C. Help me access quality care easily.

D. I honestly think it’s kind of a scam but I don’t go without it.

F. I don’t carry private health insurance.

I've had a couple burn surgeries and my gallbladder removed in the last 14-ish years. Would still be paying those bills today

My wife had our first baby last year and cant imagine doing that without insurance either.

B - I think my wife has had what would have been 50k in outpatient surgeries in the past 18 months.

If you are 27 and healthy I get it though. You're basically paying for protection against a major health issue that's also pretty unlikely

I had a medical issue when I was 11 that totaled over a million dollars in 1989. Maybe it was a half million, but it was a staggering amount of money for the time. It would have bankrupted my parents without insurance.

A, but health insurance itself adds a ton of cost to the system.

There seems to be 5-6 people in the administration of any doctor office or hospital for every 1 MD. Most of those people are handling billing.

I hear you there, just a no brainer. I am a part of a networking group and it is astounding to me that some of the people go without health insurance. 1 says that he pays like $100 / month to “belong” to some place that will do a check up and blood work and stuff, 1 does the Christian sharing deal, and 1 is a business owner that makes a couple hundred thousand dollars a year that says he hasn’t been to doctor in 15 years.

I am starting to feel out of place with this group simply cause health insurance has never even been an optional thing for me and now me and family.

My Dad had a heart attack in Prague and the insurance gladly paid for it 100%. He was on life support and in the hospital for over 30 days. The bill was $11,000. If he had the heart attack here it would have been half a million easily

Our system is perverted by taking the buyer- you- out of the loop. Doctors have to negotiate with health insurance companies for their services.

Ask a doctor what they charge for a visit and they can’t tell you.
Ask a surgeon what they charge for an operation and they can’t tell you.
They don’t know the answer or can’t divulge it to us.

They charge the health insurance company a high amount, negotiate it down and settle for less then write off the difference as a tax deduction.

That’s perverse.

Health insurance allows the medical industry to charge 20x actual costs by splitting the bill among the insured.

Health insurance is all about having peace of mind. If I paid premiums and never used it, then that would mean I have a healthy life and should be thankful of that. On the other hand if a serious accident happened or a disease was discovered, I would be in good hands to address it.

It's an expense that I am happy with.

I worked offshore with provided health insurance provided the employee pays a discounted premium. It was amazing how many people did not have insurance (they wanted more cash), middle aged men who had never been to a doctor in 5 years or more, periodontal disease out the arse because of no dental checkups and nipping issues in the bud. It was not common to see middle aged men drop dead.

Medical bills are the number 1 cause of bankruptcy in America.

A is what it should be. For routine stuff, people should pay their own was. Just like you keep up your car. But it has evolved into a mindset where people expect almost all of their healthcare expenses to be paid by someone else.

That actually was a directive of the Affordable Care Act.

Even if you wanted your health insurance to be reason A, you are no longer eligible to choose the type of coverage that fits you best.
You are a round efficient peg being sledgehammered into a square hole.

This is one of the 1000 complaints with ACA before it was voted upon and why the obvious "if you like your plan, you can keep it" was a direct lie to the American people.

Will you please tell me how to legally use my write-offs as a tax deduction. I asked my accountant about that my first year in practice twenty years ago, and he said you can’t write it off.
