MADM710 exam 1 wasn't bad. Definitely a relief going forward. Was worried where the test questions would come from but all seem to come directly from the reading. She definitely tried to trick folks on 1 T/F question in particular. Literally changed one inconsequential detail to make it false.

Agreed @craig. Was nervous all last week about the non weekend deadlines as well as the exam questions. Now that module 1 is complete, I feel confident I will pass the class without a nervous breakdown. Unlike last term lol

Glad Mod1 is over. I read somewhere on here that some of the books contain some bad grammar...I see what they were saying now that I have read 3 chapters.

Having trouble with the first question on ECON705's Module 2 assignment. Any thoughts?

Question bout Lin's ISDS 705 tests. I'm trying to be vague so as to not breach the Code of Conduct. Do his tests focus only on relevant and practical information, or is he one of those types that puts in a lot of useless trivia type questions, specifically things like dates (ie. What year was the internet created). I've always thought it was pretty worthless for non-history teachers to focus on a lot of dates that generally have no practical use other than for the occasional Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy question. I'm trying to put together my one pager, but it's going to be impossible if I need to add in a ton of dates and trivia.

It work in IT. From my perspective, the purpose of the class is to help business people build a vocabulary and general knowledge about IT "stuff" so they can communicate with various IT departments, and request IT resources.
Other students may have a different perspective, but for me it was all trivia. BTW, Al Gore did not invent the internet.

That's good to know. I used to build systems as a hobby for many years, so I'm reasonably well versed in general knowledge and vocabulary. General knowledge questions such as "What do the 1's and 0's in binary stand for" or "What does RAM do" is fine. These kinds of questions, although you'll probably never use them in a practical setting, at least focus on how the things work. My main concern is that some professors simply love to focus on irrelevant facts or useless minutiae along the lines of, "What was the street address of the garage that Jobs and Wozniak worked out of?" or "What was the date that Skynet became aware"? Actually... that last one might be pretty important to know, but you get my drift...

Hello,
Just got admitted to the program w/ HR specialization. I had a couple of questions since this fall will be my first term.
Any recommendations on classes to take or professor to ease the transition? I haven't take any classes in a long time?
Any classes I should get out of the way now versus later?
Also do you recommend two classes per session or one?
Thank you in advance!

Welcome aboard! I am in my first class this term. As far as what classes to take, if you go into the MBA Resource Center, there are sample schedules that you can either follow or use as a guide.

ISDS 705 - Lin
ACCT 701 - Ambrosio
FIN 701 - Vines
MADM 760 - Meeks or McLaughlin
MADM 701 - Kungu
MKT 701 - James (buckle up buttercup)
ECON 705 - Shaughnessy
MADM 720 - K. Williams
MADM 715 - Wren (buckle up buttercup)
MADM 710 - F. Williams (if Kungu teaches a session, enroll with him)
Can double up with everything, though some suggest that MKT 701 w/James be taken solo.
Spend some time searching through the forum. All of this information is available.

I think MAD760 should be taken solo with Dr. Meeks, also if you don't have Business background. It has lots of reading and writing. Though some of my classmates are taking 2 courses, I am going solo.

This forum has lots of information, take some time and sift through all the pages, it will help. I started in Summer AP2 and did the same.
I am currently taking MADM760 with Dr. Meeks, he teaches well but has lots of reading and writing not sure about other professors for MADM760.
First, depending on your suitability and comfort prepare your class schedule for entire program (1 course/2 course/mix and match) and then start enrolling. If there are no seats available for preferred professors, just enroll else you might not be able to enroll as per your schedule and it might take longer time to complete.

I've doubled up everything through the program except ISDS710 and MADM760, will be done after Fall AP1. The biggest obstacle to doubling up everything to complete as fast as possible was the schedule for core classes and those filling up. Map out the whole program based on the published schedule, then be ready to register as soon as it opens.
I didn't find the reading to be too bad with MADM760 and Meeks is one of the profs that makes this program. Shaughnessy is the other one. I have not had Vines yet, but looking forward to him next term. The reading was much worse in MADM 701. Based on my experience so far, if you can solo MADM760 and from what I hear MKT701, that would be ideal for balancing fast finish and workload.
I'm hoping that getting FIN710 under my belt will make FIN701 a breeze.

Was it Menon that you had for MKT 730? If so, do you think he is pairable?

If you mean MADM 730, International Business, I think its doable to pair it up but not with one of the heavy weights like ECON705 or MKT701. It was with Menon and it was a lot of reading and writing with a group project.

It’s definitely not pairable with what I was thinking then. I was thinking of pairing it with MADM 701. I’m ready to graduate and if paired the 2 in the fall I can get out a smemster early.

This is one of the few courses I doubled up on. It was fine. These are some courses that are super heavy on the reading, writing, or projects and this wasn't one of them.
The two courses I spent the most time on are MADM715 (Wren) and MKT701 (James). I wouldn't want to double up on either of those two courses.
MADM701 comes up a lot as another one to take separately. I avoided Williams like the plague and took it with Knotts. She was fine and I could have doubled up OK, but I'd probably think twice of doubling up if you have Williams for this course. There was another teacher mentioned this summer, Kungu(sp?) that is supposed to be OK also.
Anybody doubling up on MADM715 (Wren) or MKT701 (James) you have been warned.

I am currently in this class with Nathan Heller as the instructor. Tons of reading, only cover 2 chapters per week, weekly quizzes, no tests, discussion almost each week, 2 application assignments (500 word papers on a choice of subjects). First 2 weeks, non-proctored quizzes - now this week it's proctored. Not really sure why. Overall, seems ok so far.

Anyone have any thoughts or feedback on MADM 752 - Small Business and Family Enterprise?

I took this course with Dr. Knotts. It was OK. I found the material a bit dull. A fair bit of this course is geared toward the politics and succession planning of a multi-generational family business.
Weekly proctored quizzes on about two chapters of material. Weekly writing assignments. One major project in multiple parts. Basically we had to interview a small family business owner and the various parts of the project dealt with the data.
In addition to reading two chapters a week, there were typically some short video resources to study as well. I really enjoyed the videos. Most of them were really interesting. Everything from TED talks to interviewing various family business owners.
I doubled up with MADM760 and it was a busy term, but wasn't terrible.
