Proctorio is down. Apparently the 3rd party they use for chat services is down; consequently they can't verify people. Talk about inconvenient. As if being up at 1am studying wasn't inconvenient enough. Day 1.
Anybody in ECON705 (Shaugnessy) or MADM 710 (Williams). Seems to be a doable pairing. But definitely have to stay on top of studying early in the week which is different from what I have been doing of heavier studying/assignment completion Friday-Sunday.

Oh dang, one of the OG's of this forum. I think I dated you back to page 6. Thanks for the information on Vines and the encouragement.

I have that uneasy feeling about ISDS 702 also.
I actually think ISDS 702 and ISDS 705 are going to be very straight forward this term. No worries!

I'm in 710 with F.Williams. Hoping for the best with the course. You'll have to be on top of things with Williams class with an assignment due every Wednesday night. I've got my fingers crossed future quizzes will be line with the readings with 25 questions in 25 minutes.
Shaughnessy is great. One of the better professors in the program IMO.

For MADM 760 with Heller, anyone have any idea about the length of the weekly tests? I see the time limit is only 30 minutes so I am assuming it's a pretty short test. Is the quiz material taken from the practice quiz at the end of each chapter?

@Menace
I believe that the quizzes were 20 questions, so you drop to a B if you miss three.
They were easy, but I studied a lot.

Bit curious about the discussion forums. Is there any requirement or benefit to posting for Shaughnessy’s Econ 705 course? Does it affect your grade at all?

Been awhile since I took ECON705 but discussion forum had no bearing on grade as far as participation back then. Probably something you'll want to ask within your class / check your syllabus to see if that's changed. I either attended live or watched all his Zoom sessions where I typically asked my questions that weren't already answered on the forums.

In watching his intro video and double checking the syllabus, forum participation is not required.
I watched and completed quiz 1 today. Enjoyed the change of pace to video lectures. Even like the set up of following along with the quiz. So far so good on the Shaughnessy (sp) recommendation from the vets.

It really is a mixed bag on the overall quality. I really enjoyed all of the videos by Meeks (tho he did get a bit repetitive on a few topics) and Shaugnessy and even Ambrosio. The videos by some of the other professors are an exercise in frustration. Hsieh and Koksal are teeth grinders, the first is hard to understand and slow, the second is just slow with way to much time spent walking through simple math. Sometimes it's issues with ESL which is understandable, other times it is recording quality, or lack of effort/ability in making a quality presentation to actually teach.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure. As stated by someone else, it’s not mentioned as required anywhere, but I didn’t want to screw up and miss out and discover at the end of the class that it was actually a secret way to get extra credit.

quote:I'm only in the first week of Koksal's ISDS 702 course but I liked the first video. He took his time explaining it but he was thorough and he actually made his own video, rather than throwing us to Youtube where the video might not actually fit the course agenda, like many professors have started doing. Also, he is having a Zoom session every week to give students a chance to ask questions.
[Koksal] is just slow with way to much time spent walking through simple math.
Actual involvement from the professor rather than an autopilot approach earns a lot of respect from me. Of course, we'll see if my opinion changes once I'm further in the course but I'm content with what I'm seeing so far. He's made a better first impression than ISDS 710 or HCAD 750 did, that is for certain.

Same here. I appreciated his effort. I took the first practice problem. I may take the quiz tonight or tommorow.

I'm in 710 with Dr. Williams. I took her for Org Behavior and this course is setup in much the same way with assignments due mid-week, quizzes and writing assignments. Her quizzes are typically pretty easy, but make sure to fully read the materials. I noticed she will pick out somewhat obscure questions to ask that you'll only know by reading carefully.

@deenalk. MADM710: Thanks for heads up. Haven't taken it yet but the quiz average so far is 74%
Quite shocking considering it really isn't difficult reading. I'm just hoping she's pulling questions from our reading and not from some test bank of an unrelated book.

Any insight on how the practice exams compare to the actual exams in FIN710? Dr. Hsieh goes out of his way to say they cover only a small portion of the test material, don't provide any guidance on quant vs qual distribution, and are not a signal for the materials that may actually be on the exam. Sounds like it could just be a whole bunch of busy work that ends up being pointless effort when preparing for the exams.

Hi Marek76,
I took FIN710 a few years ago. Most of the problems were quantitative. The qualitative questions contained multiple negations, which made them tricky. The University mistakenly exposed pass rates for all of the MBA classes for the calendar year in which I took it. Only 30% of the people made it to the end of the class with a passing grade. Most of the pass rates for other classes were in the 60-70% range.
If they still allow it, create spreadsheets with all of the formulas. The test exams were very easy and brief compared to the real ones.
