$230B of market cap evaporated. It’s at the 50D and well below the 200D, near the 52WK low.

detailed earnings analysis

Demand softening, margins compressing, brand loyalty disappearing. They are replacing the CFO who at least has been honest about the situation. Dividends remain stable but stock buybacks have gone to zero even at this price range.

What would it take for a turnaround?

Their sales in China have fallen off, by 30-40%. It was a big market for them

yes china is a problem but N America has been strong especially in running. So what would it take to stabilize a sinking ship with one of the most recognizable brands in the world?

if it doesn’t turn around this would be one of the most shocking implosions in history

With the war, tariffs and its effects on the economy I will shy away from retail except for my core holdings in AMZN and WMT.

right…a massive marketing push back to athletes and “the beautiful people” and away from the galactic mistakes they’ve made recently with engagement.

it doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult but I am not an expert

This might be the most worrisome sign.

Stock buybacks are done for three reasons:

1) Prevent hostile takeovers
2) Obtain shares for ESPP
3) Inflate the price to trigger executive bonuses

So that means private equity is thinking "That's so bad we won't touch it", employees in the West don't believe in the company enough to buy stock at a discount from a market price that's already on sale, and the price is so bad it can't be pumped up to hit a target.

I wouldn’t purchase Nike. They lost the plot and focus of their customer by letting their personal political beliefs overshadow the entire organization. When you live in an echo chamber you really start believing all the BS.

They will never be what they once were and thats based off two different things... Their politics and the competitive market.

They shot themselves in the foot with all their woke bullshite starting with Kapernick, but the retail landscape with everything being online and the ease of people being able to startup an athletic brand and take market share.

10yrs ago it was them, reebok, addidas and UA coming up.

Now you've got all of the above, plus the likes of Lulu, Vuori, Bylt, NoBull, etc...

Basic white women have left Nike and they’re not coming back anytime soon.

LULU is in the shitter too. Drastically declining sales and market share. When was the last time either of those companies had a “must have” innovative product?

however the brand is there. It sure seems unlikely that Nike will ever not be most respected brand in apparel especially ath-leisure apparel. But how long has it been since “just do it” or “be like mike”? They need to overhaul their marketing strategy and come out with something new. A new face they can build excitement around

Agreed, people literally have 50 options athleisure options and now Amazon has a few quality options for a half the price.

Besides the woke aftermath, the above is a true story.

The new generation of consumers are not really whores to a label like the 80s and 90s were.
