with less than 25 days of diesel in reserve along with the impending winter crunch, what is the best play to hedge against a potential impending fuel shortage disaster?

So you see a scenario in the near future where the trucks that transport goods will be unable to do so? If so, for how long?

Who knows? That's what I'm struggling with now. I can't tell how much is hyperbole and what is realistic.
The only thing I'm confident about is that this administration will screw it up exponentially.

I'm hoping some baws around OT have insight into companies that would flourish in such a situation.

I can’t think of any company that would flourish if goods can’t be delivered to market.

Bingo, the main thing we are looking at is continual raising of prices until demand begins to subside.

However slow down in China from the lockdowns may help with the prices

I'm sure the refining that is happening here is exporting as much as possible to higher priced markets, more than usual. So they stop or start to limit exports and we will be fine....rest of the world I dunno.

At last check, US produces more diesel than we consume, barely.

In 2021, U.S. refineries produced about 1.63 billion barrels (68.35 billion gallons) of ULSD, and total U.S. ULSD consumption for all uses was about 1.42 billion barrels (59.82 billion gallons).

If you really believe we will run out of diesel you should be stocking up on food, water, guns/ammo. Doubtful we run out of diesel, refiners will just alter production and make less gas before letting the country crumble into anarchy

I’ve been hearing about the diesel situation for months but heating oil futures have not skyrocketed. Something is not adding up

refiners are already running max diesel output, min gasoline because of the spread difference, the smart ones are anyway. We are beyond refiners, in their present capacity, abilities to do much. In fact, turnarounds have been being pushed back that have to be done. One hydrocracker pumps out 2 million gallons a day of diesel, conservatively, that can’t be replaced until it restarts. This is a result of green energy push, a bs war over a shitstain governments prodded by shitstain governments. Buckle up buttercup, reality might slap you across the face

I don’t know anyone in the fuel business who is actually concerned about this

To be fair I don’t know if it’s gonna be a problem or not. My reply was to someone thinking refiners can do anything dofferent to fix it if it is, a problem. Crude slates maybe but refiner operations, not a chance

I meant the fuel distributors who buy from refineries and resell. I also think the fear should depend on where you live. If you are in a gulf coast state, fuel shortage would be very unlikely.

The scariest part, to me, is if the river continues to drop and stays that way for an extended period of time. We would have the diesel but it would be hard to move in big volume. This is why pipelines should be important to the country. Just another avenue to move liquids and gases efficiently across the country.

This gets a lot less scary when you find out that we typically sit between 30-35 days of distillate reserves
