Yeah it impacts people differently. The well off who own lots of equities and real estate weather it just fine. Ordinary people are getting crushed though.

The dollar is not down 25% since Jan 2021. Full stop.

I think it's amusing that some people are obviously pissed that the markets haven't tanked since Biden took office.

Dude, what world are you living in? Gas prices are up more than 25%. And they’re not up even more only because the SPR is being drained. Interest rates to finance a home purchase are up well over 25%. The totality of grocery prices are almost certainly up more than 25%.

My original point was this: If you think you are even compared to the start of 2021, you’re not.

My retirement account is right back where it was the day Biden took the oath of office. Problem is, I’ve contributed nearly $20,000 since then

You only deposited $20K in 2 1/2 years?

We must have very similar holdings.

I'm in all index funds by the way.

What year and month do you think Biden took office?

I'm still down quite a bit. My 401k is -1.6% YTD from January 1st and over -8% since Covid.

And account for 3% or less of your consumption.

That's a separate claim than the "value of the dollar". The dollar is UP over that same time frame. I get it, though - you like your artificially low interest rates due to government intervention.

Some things, yes. Some things, not.

Wages, comp and assets are up as well.

I'm not. I'm way higher since I'm not an idiot making crazy claims.

How is this possible? Even the NASDAQ is back to where it was on inauguration day.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m guessing this is just another poli board escapee trying to convince the world the economy is in shambles.

Yeah. Maybe at least took his own advice that everything would crumble, sold, and suffered the consequences. That's better than the ones that held, are up, but somehow seem pissed off about it.

Then you are doing it wrong. I have been positive for a while. Not blowing the doors down, but not negative.

VSMAX. Was my best choice 3 years ago. Still the lowest Gross Expense Ratio % and Net Asset Fee out of all of our options, and the 10 Yr return was like 11%. It's down to 7.8% now.

I usually review my 401k once a year for any adjustments since I still have 30 yrs until retirement, but this is depressing.

You put your entire retirement portfolio in a single small cap fund?

Choosing 401k options based on 10 year returns and lowest costs is not necessarily the best screening process. You should know what they actually own.

Yes, I haven't transferred funds over from a previous employer which has most of my 401k in it. This was a new employer who had stopped contributions during covid and didn't reinstate until last year. It's not 100k+ I'm playing with, only around 10k. I went small cap for the aggressiveness. I will say that most of the other options aren't doing much better.

Top other options, NWHTX, which is at 12% growth 1 year, being held up entirely by NVIDIA, or VWUAX which is also held up by NVIDIA.

Other options are Various Vanguard Retirement Dates that are all down YTD -1 to -2%.

Nationwide retirement. Not exactly pleased with options but only in it for the employee match.
