My retirement account is right back where it was the day Biden took the oath of office. Problem is, I’ve contributed nearly $20,000 since then

What'd you do to screw it up so badly?

I just don't look anymore. I'll be up 10k, down 5k, down 15k, then back up 25k. Nothing makes sense anymore.

That’s crazy. Mine is way up. Maybe stick with index investing.

I mean no offense, but I don’t think that’s “the problem”.

Just imagine how well people are doing that took out 410k loans to buy a house in 2021-2022.

They’re more than likely buying back at a much lower price and gaining interest on that amount of their payment since they are putting it back into the fund.

They’re more than likely holding a 3.0% or so mortgage interest rate too on a 30 year fixed.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that a dollar is worth about 75% of what it was worth when that clown was installed.

As measured in dollars, right? Now tell us how far a dollar goes compared to 2020.

I don't think inflation has carved 25% off of 2021 dollars.

Uh, do you buy groceries? Gas for the car? Eat out in restaurants? Pay rent? How does it look trying to buy a house in 2023 compared to before?

It depends on what you are buying.

And if it hasn't yet for something, give it a minute.

My overall expenses are definitely not 33% higher than they were in Jan 2021. And the USD itself is a good bit stronger against other currencies over the same time period.

I could ask YOU how it looks to own one. Wages and a lot of assets are UP over the same time period.

Uh
No

And even if true, Inflation impacts people differently.
anyone impacted is just buying less of something or a cheaper version which is much easier today than ever

True but it’s nice to own a house you purchased before 2020.
