My mother just got visited by the county sheriff.
Hat in hand, he says that he’s sad to tell her that
-D.R.
-Correct DOB
-Correct last four of SSN
Passed away in Florida last night.
She face times me and the officer looks at a family picture of me and sees me and says that I am indeed alive.
I Called my county sherriff and the confirmed that the floriDa county said that the man was dead and that they asked to inform next of kin.
I called that county in Fla and they said that indeed, I died in their county last night.
He was a hoarder and even his neighbors knew him as D.R and with my DOB.
I called my bank and froze everything.
Any other suggestions?

Freeze your credit reports with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.
PSA to everyone, there is no reason to not have an account set up with all of them and have your credit frozen.

Might do a search for the FTC required Annual Credit Report Request Form, and request all three reports.. Look for any anomalies when you get the reports.
Might check for warrants where the guy lives.
Might try and log on to your SSA account, pull the earnings statements and look for any anomalies there as well.

Everyone here has been EXTREMELY callous in not extending condolences to you on your untimely and unfortunate passing.
MAY I BE THE FIRST TO DO SO!
Seriously, sorry to hear that this happened to you.
Weird that it gives you pause to think about getting your fiscal house in order, not to mention the human aspects involved.
Good luck on the remediation.
Possibly meet with an attorney who does estate law for professional advice?

IP PIN with the IRS.
It's easy enough to set up on your own and dealing with a fraudulently filed tax return after the fact is a PITA.
Just remember you need a new PIN each year but you can get it easy enough online after you set up your account.
