Overall, which have the better deals on bulk items in your opinion? And if you have individual item comparisons, please tell. I’m looking to stock up on consumables as a hedge against inflation.

Take Walmart out of your equation. Sams has an app (I’m sure Costco does too) that shows you the prices of everything at your local store. Just compare between the 2 and go from there.
Chances are some things will be cheaper at one, and others cheaper at the other

To me Costco is worth it for the meat dept alone.

Costco doesn’t make you wear a mask anymore which is based
I really like their sweatpants and lasagna
When it goes below 60 I go buy like 4 pair of sweatpants and wear them everywhere except salt mine and throw them away at the end of sweatpants season because they get raggedy.
Sams club is ok but the products are geared towards “people of size”
I have a membership to both

I personally like BJs or Sam’s club.
You dont save shite at Costco. I do like their own brand and wine deals but otherwise the savings are sparse and you are still buying in massive bulk

I save like $4 on my wife’s iced coffee there . Buy like 6 at a time . That alone pays the yearly membership. The frozen lasagna in the two pack for like $9 is another stable. Probably save about $2 on milk compared to the grocery. Savings in beer, Capri suns, Gatorade , soft drinks and then top it off with a $1.50 hot dog and drink

We buy TP, paper towels, garbage bags, laundry Detergent etc at Costco. Their meat and frozen foods are solid too. Over the counter medicine is a lot cheaper there too.

Costco and Sam’s Club both best WMT on price. It’s the only channel where Walmart allows it because of the bulk sizes.
Biggest difference between Costco and Sam’s Club: Sam’s Club has ~3x the number of items per club. Costco has the minimal assortment possible and they are religious about each pallet selling at high velocities.

Costco is the GOAT retail store for quotidian stuff

We have both Costco and Sams.
We go to sams mostly, but they and costco have many similar items. Sams prices are a little better normally.

Every item you mentioned is cheaper at BJs
The one thing that always has perplexed me about any of these stores is the produce department. Maybe it’s cause I’m in south Florida and our farms go year round but their produce and fruit is always more than my local stores and much crappier quality.

Sams for us because of convenience
If I still worked in BR I’d probably say Costco
IIRC Costco’s membership is a little more expensive

Costco has better products but I feel like I save more at Sam's, especially with a Plus membership where items ship free and are the same price as in club.

I go to Sams because it's closer. I have both. I really stopped going to costco when I quit drinking.

Wait until you see a good Groupon or offer for a cheap membership and try out both or either.
Right now, you can get a 1 year Sam's membership for $20 via Groupon. Scan as You Go with the Sam's app is pretty great.
Usually around this time of year, Costco has a deal where you get a $20 gift card, 1 year membership, $20 discount on meat, and a couple more things for $60. Basically you get $60 worth of stuff and a free year of membership with that deal.
