I've had Sams for over a decade and a couple of years ago got a Costco membership on one of those groupon deals.
Costco has a lot of stuff I don't need and don't buy. Most of their stuff is their store brand, which seems to be a good quality, but just not stuff I need.
Sams just has more of the stuff I buy. I also find where the two do sell the same or compatible items, Sams is slightly cheaper.
There are four Sams Clubs relatively near me (Westbank, Slidell, Kenner, Metairie) but only one Costco.
And I still don't understand how Costco doesn't have a Scan and Go app (although the lines at Costco do tend to move a bit fater than Sams).
Finally, everyone talks about the meat at Costco... I guess I was doing it wrong because I could never really find any great deals.
All in all I decided when it came time for renewal, that it wasn't worth it to keep Costco.
Walmart isn't a competitor here... Walmart is for when you need smaller quantities.

quote:According to Wikipedia (as of this year), there are 804 Costcos, 599 Sam’s Clubs, and 229 BJ’s locations. So even if BJ’s is better, it’s a lot less likely one lives near one anyways (e.g., there are multiple Costcos and Sam’s Clubs near me, but closest BJ’s is >2 hours away).
Every item you mentioned is cheaper at BJs
