I get done with return and then get sticker shock every year. They get me because return is done and then they reveal price. I have W2, income, 1099-int, div, and some.cspitsl gains.

I use to do taxes in my youth so really just rubs me wrong at $140ish

Any accountant and any other service will charge you more or the same.

TurboTax is so popular because of how easy it is to use.

Only free and easy tax returns consist of only W2s nowadays.

The only reason I stay with them is the ease of use. I've shopped around and it doesn't make that much of a difference for me

your taxes are gravy.

you do not have the paperwork or investments or documents i have

My CPA charges me 450-500 for personal returns and 450-500 for my business return. of course the business return is tax deductible the next year.

I did that for years. It's tedious.

I got the H&R Block app last year and liked it. Full disclosure: I'm also a stockholder. Got in at $17.

TaxACT.com

I have a similar return and it’s less than half that for state and federal. It would be cheaper if we didn’t itemize.

You are getting suckered into the wrong version of turbo tax. You should be paying less than $100. I tried switching to HR block software one year and hated the interface so switched back.

TT download versions are much cheaper. You could get TT2024 deluxe at costco for $50. With that you get free federal e-file and one state. You even get a $10 credit toward any additional items such as if your state charges for e-file.

The online version costs are ridiculous.

For the quality of product, ease of use and time it saves me, the $100 or so to Turbo Tax is one of the best value purchases I make every year.

That is insanely cheap for the risk by a CPA. Do you do your own books or do they have you sign a waiver of liability on the data provided?

I use OLT (Online taxes). Its free for federal and a few bucks for state.

It's pretty user friendly. Not as much as Turbo Tax, but if you are doing simple filings, it's easy.

I haven't tried the other one's people are recommending though, they may be better.

If you're in Louisiana you can file state taxes online for free.
