no criticism allowed of any coach wearing purple and gold.
All our coaches are perfect!!
Did I say this? There were some things that weren't great, and some things that were. It's the first game of the damn season, and LSU won easily. Maybe just pump the breaks a little.

You've literally completely written off the defense in their first game without 2 of our better players and an entirely new scheme, but yeah, totally chill...

Except they dont, completely new defense this year if you paid attention at all, or to what Wade said all offseason either.
Also, again, the defense hasn't been bad every year like you keep saying.
In 2018-2019 kenpom has our defensive eff. in top 60 out of 351 teams.

But they’re not always the same. The 2018 defense was outstanding after the rotation was set, last years D struggled with injuries and a lack of size. They were completely different in style and production.

The 2018 defense wasn’t outstanding...at all. Much better than last year? Yes. Outstanding? No. Of the top 30 teams, LSU was the third worst defensively. It’s why Michigan St. absolutely carved them up in the NCAAT
This was a bad team LSU played tonight. In 14 years of D-1 competition SIUE has NEVER had a winning season. And for a team whose HC said they placed more emphasis on the defensive end in the offseason than ever before, they just came out played their worst defensive opener...by far...of the Wade tenure (feel free to check the stats)
Can they improve? Absolutely. I think Leblanc by himself will do more than Wade can ever do. But past results don’t give you much confidence they will.
That’s not being unrealistically negative. It’s looking at 3 years of data

Besides the obvious trolls, it's a double-edged sword. Heightened expectations for the program lead to newfound expert "fans" that know better.

“Good” is relative. Was that team good relative to SWAC and MEAC teams? Yes.
We’re they “good” relative to power conf teams? Not really. For example, that team was the 8th best defensive team in the SEC. They would have been 8th best among Big 12 teams. 12th among Big 10 teams. 10th among ACC teams. So Wade’s best defensive team was below average among power conf teams.

That dude is stating a fact, nothing ignorant about his statement. Tell me when has the defense been great under WW? He didn’t say WW was terrible as a coach, just that the defense has been.
