They were right you know. First and second in conference the last two years.

I know, I know, the season can be predicted by the first game of the season.

Lol you people simply have no idea how to interpret college basketball statistics. Did you know the back to back Duke champs, one of the greatest teams of alltime, gave up the same points per game as LSUs 2018-19 squad, (73.0, 73.1ppg)? I guess they were a terrible defensive team too by your standards? On top of that you’re literally blaming Wade for a game he didn’t even coach. Benford completely changed the lineup and matchups, he couldn’t have called a worse game if he was trying to lose it on purpose. He was god awful the entire tournament but you’d have to know what you’re looking at to understand that.

No he’s not stating a fact. The defenses he’s calling identical weren’t the same at all. They’re 78 spots apart in defensive rating and they had completely different types of personnel so how are they exactly the same?

Johnny Jones went 2-16 in the SEC in his final year coaching at LSU.

Now that's a fact.

You’re literally blaming Wade fir a game he didn’t even coach where the interim guy completely changed the lineup and matchups which is what actually caused the loss. But you’d have to know what you’re looking at to understand that.

Here’s some more numbers. Feel free to show all of us rubes your analytical prowess to explain how LSU hasn’t been a bad defensive team under Wade

125 - LSU’s average defensive efficiency rating over the past three seasons

59 - Wade’s best season defensive efficiency rating. That number placed LSU in the bottom half defensively of the SEC that season. It would have also put them in the bottom half of the ACC, Big 12, Big 10

11th - LSU’s average defensive efficiency ranking among SEC teams in Wade’s three seasons

20 - since 2002 NO team has won a championship with a defensive rating below 20.

81 - the most points allowed in an opening game under Wade at LSU

51% - the highest FG % ever allowed in an opening game under Wade at LSU

0 - the amount of winning season SIUE has had in 14 years as a D—1 program.

13 - the amount of three pointers SIUE made tonight. The most that program has made in a game in the last 7 years

13- the amount of points LSU won by

0- the amount of minutes LSU trailed in the basketball game.

I didn’t bring up analytics so why do you feel the need to create a straw man? Secondly and again you have no idea how to interpret college basketball stats. You think it’s like football where you need to be top 5 in every statistical category to be efficient in it lol. I also notice you completely ignore the example I gave which means you don’t care and don’t want to educate yourself, you just wanna keep banging on the coach proving this is a personal thing not an objective position.

The example you gave is from nearly 30 years ago when the average scoring was higher than it is now. Giving up 72 ppg isn’t terrible when teams were routinely scoring 80, 90, 100 ppg

The advanced metics clearly and unequivocally show that over the course of nearly 20 years NO team has won a championship with a defensive efficiency rating worse than 20. It is arguably the greatest predictor of championship success we have today. Wade’s best season was 40 spots below that.

I have nothing personal against Wade and have NEVER called for his firing on here. Not once. He’s the best HC LSU has had since Brown. However, his defense has never been good at LSU. Not even in 18-19 when, as I pointed out above, it was below average among power conf programs.

That doesn’t mean LSU can’t be “good”. They have under Wade. It just means they can’t be championship level under him with that level of defense.

A- not sure the statement about 30 years ago is relevant because we’re talking about ranking regardless of point totals. Those 2 Duke teams were 121st and 139th in ppg allowed.

B- you’re using a double standard, arguing the back to back Duke teams are too far removed to compare then using the bulk of your argument from over a decade ago to push your point. The truth is over the last decade 5 national champions have ranked outside the top 20 in defensive rating and 4 ranked from 49th to 84th. Only 1 team (Virginia) since the rule changes has won a championship being ranked top 20 in defense, the other 3 have ranked 71st, 49th and 64th.

These so called basketball geniuses around here show their hypocrisy and ignorance all the time. I think what they try to analyze from factual statements is that others think WW is just as bad as previous coaches and that’s not at all what a bunch of us are saying. WW is light years better than JJ but his weakness is coaching defense in all aspects of it and if he has ambitions to win a national championship, it hinges upon playing good defense along with the offensive numbers they are putting up.

no reason to reveal the defense for ST louis to study

We are talking about defensive principles here: staying attached to the dribbler, feigning pressure to help guard against dribble penetration, closing out on catches, boxing out, etc.

Basketball defensive is less about scheme and more about habits.

Yep...same every year...no fundamentals of the game: no block outs,

Once the lead cut to two I saw very good blockouts, and they were switching well. I guess they are capable. Hopefully they become consistent.
