I had forgotten, but the game Saturday reminded me of days darker than the ones you mentioned in 99, it reminded me of Curley's debut at College Station in '91.

I was at that game.. LSU got pounded by Baton Rouge native Bucky "Won't You Bite My arse" Richardson, QB of the Aggies... the score was similar to the score last wknd in Starkville... If you are like the OP and think that some of us old timers cant remember the dark days-- then you are extremely misguided and tone deaf. Our remembrance of the bad old days is PRECISELY why we are losing sleep over Orgeron.

At some point this has to sink in for all the idiots who believe the majority of "negatigers" want the team to lose. We don't. We just don't expect them to win.

There's a difference in expecting an Orgeron coached team to compete for championships and hoping Orgeron an coached team will compete for championships. I'll let y'all figure out whether it's the former or the latter that's realistic.

The 1999 Season

If you watched that game against MSU on Saturday and DID NOT think about the AU game at home in 1999, then you didn't watch either game.

When were the bright days of LSU Football? 2000-2013. Its called Saban and his shadow.

Through the McClendon years I had always hoped for another National Championship. Fifty Years? Think about it.
Saban came aboard and we won it all twice. Then the Saban affect started to fade. I don't expect to win another in my lifetime. We probably won't win another conference championship.
It starts at the top. Remember the "Settler" commercial. The LSU Athletic Dept has always been dominated by "Settlers". They settled for Archer when they could have had Spurrier. They settled for Dinardo whose last game at Vandy, he lost by fifty points. Joe Dean wanted to keep Dinardo for a couple more years. If Joe Dean, an LSU man through and through , had gotten his wishes, still no National Championship.

You are mistaken. There are a whole bunch of us that fully remember LSU's "Dark Ages". We don't want to get back to that level and are concerned that the Alleva/Coach O connection might be in that direction.

Funny thing is Saban's shadow outshone him at LSU. Other than '03, his best was about like Gerry's best and there was plenty grumbling about 8-5 in 2002.

Likely had he returned to CFB in a different conference, or even SEC school, things could've worked out much better for LSU (and Miles).

I consider the dark days to be when fans get excited about Shreveport bowl like when we beat Saban up there. I was there on the field happy as F..k chanting "1 more year to Eddie K."
We have not truly competed for an SEC title since 2011/12.
I wouldn't consider it dark. But it's like night time with a full moon to me at this point.
If we would focus on the 11 other games on our schedule every year and not Bama,
We could make the playoffs in near future.

This is so very, very true. I am actually starting to wonder if Saban's long tenure at Bama is slowly killing SEC dominance over other conferences in general because the better coaches are now avoiding having to play him and his machine every year.

It was a lot easier to stomach sucking back then, ticket and parking prices were acceptable.

Ask me how I know you are in your 20s. Maybe low 30s. This is nowhere near that bad. It could get there but this isn't close yet.

I was saying that because yall folks better appreciate the 9-3 8-4 records the old days LSU was getting stomped at home by 30 points

so because at some point in history LSU was really bad, we should be content with 8-4?

If Bama were to go 8-4, you think they'd be content, just because they sucked so bad in the early 2000's?

Dumb fricking thread, RAd for anchor.

Curley's debut was not in College Station. It was in Athens, GA. Wife and I were there. Remember it all too well.

That's my biggest issue. Call me a Miles supporter or whatever. While I recognize that it was time for him to move on, under Miles I still expected LSU to win. I knew it wouldn't be pretty, and I knew they'd probably lose one or two they shouldn't. But I still expected 10+ wins.

Orgeron may right the ship. Florida will be a big indicator of that, but right now I'm not sure I see 5 more wins on the schedule.
