I agree, but the conversation is exhausting. That horse is long dead.

I guess someone has to dominate the sports no one watches. How is women’s golf doing?

Considering he hired the lady who got a lot of people to care about and watch women’s basketball, I’d say he’s doing alright. Ik I didn’t watch it before but I am now. And LSU is doing well in Football and Baseball as well.

Yes, Woody has made some great hires that are paying off in other sports but why the huge contract for McClown? I mean even if he had to let WW go to get the ncaa off our back and that’s a big if, was that contract necessary for an unproven mid Major coach? It just doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint or based on the other hires he has made.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Had to give McMahon assurance considering the insane rebuild he was about to go through.

You can criticize the way SW handled the Wade situation but as far as the hire there was no one coming here of any significance. I'll give MM another year to show improvement but it was a crappy situation he came into. And if they were holding the football program over his head then he may have had no choice but to fire Wade. Too many unanswered questions to be able to say anything definitively. I loved wade but paying the girlfriend out of his wife's account wasn't a smart move.

At least know the facts if you are going to comment. There was no "holding football over his head." Under the IARP process, the only thing the NCAA controls is the Notice of Allegation. By the time Wade was fired, the NOA had already been issued. That is a convenient narrative for someone who wanted Wade fired.

There was not an allegation of Wade paying the ex-girlfriend from his wife's account. The allegation was the Wade was blackmailed by an ex-girlfriend of a former player. That, by the way, is not an NCAA violation even if he made the payment because the player was out of eligibility.

Next, the allegation as to the checking account was that he paid a person "possibly associated" with a player out of a joint account. Again, they had no way to determine whether this individual was actually associated with the player and they also have no way of finding out since the NCAA cannot compel the individual to show up and answer questions.

Again, Woodward knew the allegations would not hold up, but used it as a convenient way to get rid of Wade - because he wanted him gone. The narrative that he had no choice is simply not reality.

It’s possible to give him credit for good hires and call him out for what this men’s basketball program has turned into.

What a weird group.
Orgeron built an average team, in three years, into the most entertaining football team in NCAA history. Some experts say the best in history.
Wade had us in the tourney every year.

Any of Woody's Toadys, who say they would rather watch LSU Basketball, Football, or Women's Basketball in 2023, are strange. Would you rather watch Burrow to Chase, or Daniels to Boutte, Wade/Waters and team or Mac/Hill and team.
I'm happy that women's basketball is so successful. However, don't expect me to watch.

Every argument about the current state of our basketball program begins and ends with this fact. But for Will Wade’s actions, we are not in this mess. Regardless of the fact that he was the best college coach ever, or that he had swagger, or that he could recruit, or that he was a gangster, or that he was beloved by his fan boys. HE caused all of this. Not Alleva, not Woodward, not the players, not the NCAA….Wade caused it.

I give a pass to Woodward on McMahon, but that's because I think that was all he could get. Stabbing Wade in the back is one half, but the other is telling a new coach "Hey, welcome. You might get a year of recruiting and then we're gonna get smacked with a recruiting violation. And oh yea, we expect you to get into the tournament every year after your first too."

Most coaches are gonna walk from that, never mind the player exodus that followed.

Jabba the AD is really good at throwing money around. Gave O the dumbest extension possible with a full buyout. Hired Kelly and pulled him away from ND. (Amazing Job). Fired/Let Vargas find another job and had Kim lined up. (Extenuating circumstances at Baylor helped this come together). Paul needed to retire and Woody helped that transition and seems to have done a great job so far.

It’s how’s he handled Men’s basketball that has been a complete failure on his part. Basically, giving the program the death penalty in order to have his guy as a coach. He either didn’t get his guy he thought he could get and settled or this was his guy (that to me is very concerning). Next basketball hire based on Woodys track record needs to be perform by someone else in the Athletic Department.

Or it signals to current and future bball coaches that the AD is financially committed to men’s bball. McMahon may not be the right guy. I hoped he would be.

And this is a convenient narrative for Wade sycophants. It’s easy to say the NCAA allegations wouldn’t hold up or were baseless or this other school didn’t cave when it’s not your decision. Fans can easily embrace the outlaw image and rally around “your guy” we see this all time and not just with sports. But the bottom line is Wade put himself and in turn the university in some bad situations by flagrantly violating the rules and got caught. it was simply too big of a risk to take to keep him. Given the state of the program with the axe hanging over it, the quality of candidates wasn’t going to be top tier. Given his past history of hires including the MBB coach at A&M to say MM was “his guy” is nonsense. It was the best he could get under the circumstances. If it doesn’t work out, then we will see who he brings in next

My biggest issue that most of those with only blaming Wade, ignore how Woody fired him. It was a dumb and cowardly way to get rid of a coach. Who's gonna want to work for someone like that?

It’s also possible to give him the benefit of the doubt based on his track record, which is stellar, and to allow the McMahon tenure to play out, instead of mobilizing the mob to hang him from the gallows after year 1. Mike did walk into the worst possible situation (Wade’s fault), after all.

I have literally walked through why they would not hold since the months after the Dawkins tape contents were released. Did the same when the NOA was issued. The NCAA threw the kitchen sink at Wade and it was empty.

Anybody who has half way paid attention to the IARP process knew how this would play out.

At this point, what’s the harm in letting in play out?
