Simple. It depends on my current roster.

Crews. Blow out risk on any pitcher is too high. Take the high value hitter and load up on college arms later in the draft. And in the UDFA market.

Won’t happen but as a Rangers fan I would be ecstatic if one of them dropped to the #4 pick. We could use either one. Really comes down to biggest need of the team…if they have a decent current staff along with upcoming pitchers established in the farm system they trust then go with an everyday player like Crews. A top of the rotation guy is invaluable too…so glad I’m not making that decision.

Crews. He's better and has less of an injury risk being a hitter

Skenes. Could be teams ace within couple of years with the type of talent that only comes along once or twice a decade. Honestly though, this is year where having the #2 pick is a blessing because you’re happy with either one and don’t have to deal with headache of choosing one.

This is a very tough decision. I'm not sure who I would take. If I knew that Skenes would never get hurt then I'd choose him, but since I can't be sure of that then I'd go with the safer pick and take Crews.

Pirates
Nationals
Tigers

If I’m the Pirates, I’m going with Crews. He’ll probably be taking over CF pretty quickly.

Washington will get Strasburg 2.0.

Go check the history of pitchers taken at the top of draft vs college hitters taken at the top of the draft

Guys throwing over 100mph with great control do not grow on trees. I take my chances and draft Skenes.

A pitcher with a dominating fastball and command like Skenes has a much higher probability of being elite at the major league level than even the best college hitters. If Crews is an elite MLB player, he’d be the better pick. But I think Skenes has the better chance.

I think Crews slump shows why Skenes would be the better pick, Skenes had one normal outing I wouldn’t even call it bad all year
