Here is the simple question that should help a lot of people figure out what they would prefer.

In their prime would you prefer Mike Trout or Jacob Degrom?

Did he? good for him Guess it’s back to Brein Taylor and some guy from the 70s I think that went 1-1 and didn’t make it

I mean nothing is fool proof but college pitchers are generally safer than HS guys

For sure. actually college players in general are much safer, that was one of Billy Beanie’s things in Moneyball. The HS hitters that went 1-1 and did make it became superstars like Griffey Jr, ARod, Chipper Jones, Strawberry

So you are cherry picking to suit your argument? Drafts in general are crap shots, MLB more so than the NFL or MLB. No one said college hitters never bust, or that all pitchers do but according to baseball people the hitters have a better rate of success overall

If you want to call it cherry picking - OK. I'm just saying that the list of pitchers that are in the class that Skenes is is a very small list. There are many pitchers that went #1 overall that don't belong on that list.

Lester is right.. you have to take Skenes... and thats no knock on Crews. its the value that a power arm brings... hes a big kid... he prob going to be durable... no way you can pass on a 100mph arm thats accurate. they make more money than everyday players and they play once every 5 days... think about that... thats how valueable they are..

Y’all act like these aren’t a dime a dozen at the MLB level. 95 percent of MLB pitching rotations are dudes that throw upper 90’s and have command.

How many 5 tool guys like Crews do you see in the MLB?

Skenes or Crews, I’m going Skenes
You’re only saying that because of the recent Crews mini slump. Crews is the much better value.

Average mlb fastball for starting pitchers in 2023 is 93.4

Your math is off.

And Skenes is a unicorn every bit as much as Crews is.

You’re comparing Skenes to the rest of the pitching staff which is barely average at best.

You think Skenes is only GOAT compared to LSU’s pitching staff?

As a Nats fan, I want Crews.

It’s basically Harper/Strasburg for the Nats. Rizzo better not f it up.

You are using 20/20 hindsight though, comparing guys who did make it and have similar talent and then claiming other top pitchers that didn’t pan out weren’t as good to begin with. There is no guarantee Skenes will pan out like those guys, the list of guys that do is small this list of ones that did not is long

He may be a rare talent, and by no means am I saying he will bust, I’m simply saying that over time elite college hitters have been safer picks, they pan out more often

Depends on your roster, but if you need both I’m taking an every day players vs a once every 5 days player.
