Saban made Alabama billions of dollars. He was the de facto mob boss over there. There’s no way he was asked to walk away while Bama was still a powerhouse.

Nick Saban left because his key advantage was diluted with nil

He saw the writing on the wall

Not saying you’re wrong. But they were definitely slipping below the standard and Nick was all of a sudden old as frick

Lazy, typical message board take.

A more serious reason is his control was being taken away. You can't rule with fear and discipline if the kid can transfer every year without penalty. You can't coach the way he did with millionaire punk kids that have no regard for authority. THAT is the writing that was on the wall. THAT is why he retired.

I mean.. he won the SEC championship and made the CFP his last year.

I think we can agree he was burned out with the portal/NIL changes which gave other teams with loads of money a slight competitive edge over Alabama. He was 72 and still had a little more time left imo, but only him and his family really know if age was a factor. My point is just that it’s ludicrous to think Saban was asked to leave. There was no one who could do it better than him even at 72.

I think the words posted by HailHailtoMichigan! make more sense than the opening post.

I have heard interviews with Saban since his retirement and it has always sounded like he was not at all enamored with NIL and realized he could not keep sending his teams to the playoffs every single year.

After all, he had won so many. Most coaches never win one.
