I’m curious to hear the positive and negative opinions out there so I’ll pose this question.

How would you rate Woodward’s hire so far on a 1-10 scale with 10 the best. And then give a little explanation for your rating.

I have a hard time rating him much higher than a 6 so far. He has had a lot of messes to clean up in the major sports so I’d concur if anyone thinks it’s still too early to say.

ETA. Jury is still out on baseball and football. Although clearly was unable to land his first choice in either hire.

Great hire in a sport that generally operates in the red.

Sent a very clear message this last month what he thinks of the men’s basketball program, which was stay in your lane and don’t create problems for football. Fired the most successful coach the program has had in 30 years and instead of going “big game hunting” he settled for the squeaky clean mid major coach who won’t create in a problems and will likely keep us out of the cellar.

I think it’s way too early to say. His coaching searches seem to have been done discreetly and professionally and he doesn’t seem to have broken the bank. He pulled a rabbit out of his hat with Kelly, but we’ll see how that turns out. It will probably take a few years before things come in to focus and it’s clear how his hires have performed.

4/10 so far.

Mulkey is killing it and I think CBK will be successful. Jay is a big question mark, and I think MM can do something positive by year 4 or so.

All of his hires on paper have been fine. And not enough time has gone by to rate performance.

I don’t think there’s really any way to accurately answer this. All I know is that he’s playing with fire. All the coaches are his now and if they don’t perform, he’s done. You can’t live off of a womens basketball coach at a school like lsu.

Generally agree...think MM is big question mark yet as well. I will give him time, but not too optimistic. If I had to guess now I would bet SW will be buying him out in Year 4.

4 for hiring Mulkey. Otherwise, 2.

When you have to hire as many coaches as he will have to, he probably won’t get them all right. This will determine how is tenure will be perceived

Outstanding!!!

Getting Brian Kelly/Kim Mulkey was a homerun hire.

Not sure what you mean here because both sports at LSU operate in the black. I know baseball is close but generally they pull their weight.

here is where you people need to accept that LSU basketball will always be second fiddle. LSU football is king and always will be. It is the engine of LSU sports and you all need accept that it will never change.

Just like at UNC, basketball runs everything. Football will never be lead dog there.

It’s pretty obvious he means Mulkey as the great hire in a red sport.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

When he came in was expecting a 9 or 10. He is probably at like a 2 or 3 currently.

His coaching hires have been headlined by Kim and BK, JJ could be a good hire and who knows on MM. these are all pending results as of now.

He has held good searches without too many leaks so that is nice. The contracts are what they are I have no issue with LSU spending money.

He however gave O a insane contract, nothing wrong with laying your nc winning coach but everyone knew O was nothing without competent coaches around him so woody should have done a better job making the buyout not so bad.

His involvement at whatever level with Bo and approving an insane contract for a washed up bum no one else wanted is a black mark on him.

His political pa seeing with comments to the media and lighting tiger stadium up in at George Floyd colors was stupid.

He let the media get a sound bite off of him for no reason months after an issue with how O handled the protest. I would expect a seasoned AD to be able to side step a media guy.

He doesn’t seem to have anticipated the NIL stuff very well, we look flat footed on it.

The wade thing looks worse as the ncaa is being shredded left and right, Wade messed up and maybe even should have been fired but the letter he wrote was piss poor and stupid. Then two weeks later we see a push for the ncaa to be limited and it makes us look worse and weak, also makes it look like he chose to help prop mark e up instead of help LSU.

His management of having the team find out via Twitter was pathetic. He should be able to tactically figure away to not have the team find out via Twitter.

His timing on firings has been bad. He let Paul drive the program down. He had an out with O over the title ix but chose to let him stay and coach and then fires him after a win which makes us look dumb. He should have fire him after his pathetic offseason hires and when he had the chance to do it for cause but he chose verge over the program.

All of this shite would be expected under joe alleva, but Scotty was sold as best AD ever and frankly hasn’t come close to living up to it even if you remove the trigger wade stuff.

I hope he can turn it around but he seems more interested in sucking up to Tate and JBE than he does with trying to restore the golden years of LSU athletics.

Too early. All of his hires are in year one with one just completing year one.

He is doing just fine

If wade doesn't pay out of his personal account, no need to fire.

Can we give the new hires 3 years?

I am loving the Brian kelly approach and culture change so far.

Baseball will be fine, we haven't recruited the studs we needed for years and we will get those guys back.

0 for giving LSU basketball the death penalty while Kansas has the same infractions and is about to win a natty. All he had to do was ignore the ncaa like every other program and we would be top 5 next year.

Too soon to tell. He was clearly hired as part of the South Baton Rouge/Catholic High good ole boy network. He had an unlimited bankroll at A&M and he used it to make a shock the world hire in Jimbo, who the jury is still out on. He's made one home run hire in Mulkey. The others look decent to very good on paper, but Johnson is the only one to coach a live game yet and he's off to a rocky start.
