LSU basketball hasn't won shite. WTF is wrong with you people

Don’t think a lot of our fans realize or want to admit the LSU Basketball brand doesn’t mean much of anything outside the state. And the same could be said about every program in the SEC outside of Kentucky. Even Arkansas isn’t the brand their fans think they are. They, too, hired a mid-major hoping he’d work out just like the rest of us. Kentucky is the only program in this league that can go pick a coach off just about any program in America and have them take the job or strongly consider it. That’s just reality.

It’s also relevant that the money boosters are willing to pay to hire a big named football coach isn’t the same as it is for a basketball coach. We don’t have boosters willing to go pay 7-8 million/year for a basketball coach, which is what the top bball coaches are making now.

I think your analysis is spot on. CMM is a short term patch, not a long term solution to lead the program forward. Woody’s MO is to get big time winners and he usually doesn’t take risks with coaches without a proven track record.

A&M fans creamed themselves when Woody went out and hired Buzz Williams for them. Paid him a lot of money at the time, too, one of the highest in the sport. He’s done jackshit in 3 years now. Is that what we wanted? To go throw a pile of money at a reasonably successful mid-major coach?

Why would he got out of his comfort zone to hire a mid major coach with no pedigree unless his hand was forced?

I mean Kim Mulkey is making 2.5 million. That’s what it takes to get a top 2-3 women’s coach.

Maybe the budget for Men’s Basketball wasn’t 10+ million.

The women’s basketball has a lot richer history than the men’s? They had one great run with Augustus and Fowles.

Before it went downhill we were a perennial Sweet 16-Final 4 team.

Year one in a total rebuild and we’re already firing the coach

Look to the wbb, it just took 1 year! Remember how empty the stadium was the last few years of Nikki, and don't tell me LSU wbb has a richer history than mbb

To be fair, not every single person with the resume and ability of Coach Mulkey will walk through those doors.

Hires like that rarely ever happen, we were fortunate it worked out and Kim had a lot of ties to the state of Louisiana. Her mom who is up in age is right down the road in Hammond. LSU is the only school in the state that could afford to support the way it needs to. Outside of that she was never leaving Baylor for anywhere else. While Louisiana Tech is forever close to her heart, they could never able support or give her the resources she needs to compete with other top programs.

Now given the circumstances which we fired Wade and the pending NCAAA investigation, LSU was always going to be pretty limited in terms of who they truly could hire during this time period.

I think a deal was reached with NCAA and Matt McMahon is the direct result of that. Give it a few years, the program gets in the clear, McMahon goes bye bye and we go for a homerun hire!!

You see you would have needed to post this BEFORE this 3 game debacle.

Now it just sounds like you got sand in your vagina.

When that shite is swirling around the media and the players all bail when you’re looking for a coach, that really doesn’t matter. Perception at that time was reality. No established coach was going to take that risk.

Of the 4 coaches mentioned, nobody inherited a worse program than McMahon. Kelly had 39 scholarship players, but he at least had players. Mulkey had players, she just didn't have a while lot of talent. Johnson had both, he was just short on pitchers. McMahon had a few players that were still on the roster, but it was a foregone conclusion they were all leaving. He had Miller coming off of an ACL and some walk-ons. Also as mentioned, the 3 other programs have better recent history than men's basketball.

They made the Final 4 five straight times with Augustus and Fowles. Zero times before or since. They made the Sweet 16 six times before that era and twice since. That’s not perennial. The men have made 4 Final 4s and 10 Sweet 16s. The women’s team only has a slight edge due to one 5-6 year period of greatness.

UK is the only program with the ability to go out and land a brand name coach right now because of their history and focus on hoops.

I thought Auburn hired big when they got Bruce Pearl and Tenn did well when they got Rick Barnes. A&M hired well when they hired Buzz Williams and State did well when they hired Ben Howlsnd . Bama hired Avery Johnson recently. Georgia hired Tom Crean.

There have been quite a few big name hires.

There are examples of SEC schools bringing in big name coaches besides Kentucky.

Woodward prolly agreed to get rid of Wade, in exchange for no or little sanctions....

CMM is a very good choice for LSU basketball, give him time.

It only takes 2 years to be good in basketball. No coach currently in the sec has taken longer than 2 to build a contender. MM is on the clock and his recruiting is behind Wades, Pearl, Oats, Muss and Cals pace.
