then you 50 or so diehard women's hoop fans raise the money to hire a great coach. I'd rather that money be spent elsewhere.
just hire some young up and comer for cheap like Pokey was.

IDK, what about that guy up at UCONN? He seems to be an ok coach. Maybe he would leave and come here?

Lisa Stockton from Tulane maybe?

Aside from the money and the situation she has set up at Baylor, she has a little bit of bad blood with LSU.
She would be just as inclined to tell us to shove it just because of that.

Coach Barmore was somewhat forced out at Tech for some reason and then retired. He missed coaching so Mulky was able to convince him to be an assistant with her at Baylor.

What a moron.
50 or so diehard fans? Puh-leeze. There's more than enough fans to fill that arena if there's a quality product on the floor. With Van, that's not the case.
And no, we're not gonna "raise any money". The university is going to do what they're supposed to do and spend good money to get a good coach. When you want quality it don't come cheap, my friend. And regardless of what you "want your money" to be spent on, the university is going to spend what they will on getting a good coach. So just sit there in front of your computer screen and have a beer while LSU takes care of business in this matter.

Which is why the PMAC would sellout for match-ups with Tennessee, right? All 50 people were there?
How was attendance for men's basketball this year or last year? Does no one care about that either?
If the teams are winning, people will go. It's that simple.

Also, Mulky is the biggest game in town at Baylor. Women's B-ball is the #1 program there. People care. She'll never get that anywhere else.

LINK
linked is an article about the Vandy game played in 1/13/2008. this ended up being the 4th season in a row that we made the final four
the article notes that the game had the SIXTH LARGEST CROWD in the history of the women's program of 10,841. That amounts to 80% of the PMAC's 13,472 capacity.

Exactly. And that is the point. To say that there's only "50 diehard fans", is certainly a gross misstatement. And at the same time, the women have topped over 10K a number of times the past decade, including a couple of standing room only games of over 15K. But of course, that was when we had GREAT TEAMS. If you don't have a quality product on the floor, you will not fill the PMAC. All you have to do is look at Trent Johnson's last two teams to see that...................
But I guess we shouldn't spend money on men's basketball either.

more attendance number from when LSU was putting a good product on the floor in 2007-08
remember this was a program that had gone to 3 consecutive final fours and went again this season
Mississippi St: 4323
South Carolina: 4694
Georgia: 8807 (ranked #24 at that time)
Ole Miss: 5529
Kentucky: 3860
UCONN: 9763 (it's UCONN)
Arkansas: 5193
take from it what you will, but these numbers show me that people will show up IF we are playing a top team, but the 4,000-person fanbase when the team was at the peak is about all you could hope for

But dude it sold out one time against UT so that means we should spend loads of cash on a new coach

Men's basketball can and will turn a profit if money is spent on it. We've done so in the past.
Women's hoops may have high attendance on pack the pmac days, but they will never be a big draw, consistent draw.

Actually ... yes. For an up-and-comer that would probably jump at the job and look at it as a step up ...
Lisa Stockton from Tulane.
She is doing really well with that program.
