With enough resources, could LSU be an elite basketball schoo?

Say we had a Phil Knight type alum who wanted to throw virtually unlimited money at the problem.

I don't why we would need that much. I see no reasons from either a recruitment basis or our facilities that wouldn't allow LSU to be as good as an Iowa St, Wisconsin or Baylor.
Hard to imagine we will ever be "elite". i. e. Duke, UNC, UK, etc.

If Florida can do it then LSU can. The problem is finding the right coach.

The problem is finding the right coach.
Does anybody have confidence that he can do that?
He's 0-3 in Basketball HC hires so far and we all just witnessed how he handled the Football HC hire.
I'm so ready for this guy to seek employment elsewhere.
There are many experienced and talented AD's across the country that have high standards of excellence for their respective schools..............

I would be satisfied winning a NCAA tourney game.

I'm not a big Aleva hater or lover but the stats show that whatever he did or had a hand in hiring Coach O and his assistants is WORKING so far. LSU finished ranked #13 which is the second highest ranked SEC team. Not bad for a first year interim coach with new assistants. As far as the Johnny Jones saga..... I hope that ship has sailed and we get a new coach next year. We saw under Dale Brown what a decent coach with a phenomenal recruiting mind can do for a program. As it looks now, Johnny can't coach or recruit. They will surely have a losing year and all will become clear after the year is over that something needs to change..... AGAIN. LSU can be a top 10 or 15 team year end and year out because the fans have shown that if you have a really good team, we will show up and support them but you must start winning first. Winning breeds winning but it's a catch 22 because you must start winning for it to be contagious and repetitive.

I've heard of the NIT, but what's an NCAA Tourney game?

Do you think programs like Gonzaga, Creighton and St. Mary's have lavish on campus facilities? Butler plays in a 90 year old stadium.
It takes the right head coach. LSU just hasn't found that guy since Brown. Brady was a necessity hire. Johnson flamed out even though he looked good on paper. Jones is doing about as well as expected (which wasn't very much).
LSU has to either:
A. Be willing to spend big money to get an established winning HC; or
B. Hit on a young up and coming coach

It's like some of yall are saying,,,, the right coach, and a new commitment to BB by an admin that's supportive of the program should lead to at least fairly regular appearances in the tourney. I think everyone would be for that. Until that happens, though,,,,tough times ahead.

Not enough of a sample size to say this.

Gonzaga's new $250 million capital expenditure includes new state of the art Student Athlete Center
Volkar Center for Athletic Achievement
The 51,240-square-foot Volkar Center for Athletic Achievement, to be built directly south of the Martin Centre, will help student-athletes succeed in competition, in the classroom and in the community. With an estimated cost of $34 million, the building will house student-athlete support services, a weight room, nutrition center, basketball practice court, Gonzaga Athletics Hall of Fame, and multiple meeting areas. Combined with spaces in the Martin Centre and McCarthey Athletic Center, the building will provide Gonzaga student-athletes with among the finest facilities and support services in the nation. ALSC Architects of Spokane is the architect for the project, which is expected to open in early fall 2017.

it's not about money - it's just about getting a quality coach in here. Basketball can be turned around very quickly with the right guy at head coach.

Pretty sure Creighton and Gonzaga have some pretty nice arenas.
