You named 3 guys. Sure is possible BUT HIGHLY unlikely especially for a speed position.

I could name more but they would be backups and kickers or some who haven't been relevant in a long time.

The 3 I named were still productive on their respective teams in 40's

If CJ has a good year, there may not be a next year - he'll declare for the NFL Draft.

^This. I don't expect CJ to play baseball again.

If he has a good year in football, he'll get on NFL teams radar and put himself in good position to be drafted high after his senior year.

I think he'll play both sports for the next two years and then make a decision after being highly drafted in both sports. He'll have incredible negotiating power at that point.

If he doesn't opt for the NFL draft he will be at spring practice.

Agree with your post but he's already on the radar of NFL scouts IMO.

CJ has basically had one big play in an LSU uniform.

(1) Almost taking off JPW's head early in the '07 game
(2) The tackle for fumble and eventual LSU TD in '07
(3) Batting away the first long pass in the endzone of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl

Those are just off the top of my head...

Thats all there are... BTW, he was beat on the Peach Bowlplay but the ball was underthrown. He did make a tremendously athletic play to knock it down though...

the problem with this, is that its WAY harder to make it to the majors than it is to make it to the nfl. you get drafted in the 1st round of the nfl draft, you've made it. you get drafted in the 1st round in the mlb draft, you may end up in the minors your whole career

I agree with this.

With rare exceptions, guys who have only 1 year of starting experience aren't drafted as highly as they would be if they stayed for their senior years.

I think that the chance of losing him to pro baseball after his junior year is higher than the chance of losing him to the NFL, but I'll be surprised if we don't enjoy watching him for two more years in both sports. That is how he will make the most money.

You guys have turned this into another "what should he do" thread. There are a couple more of those, why don't you carry that back into them? As for the original question, there is absolutely zero chance Les lets Chad miss spring football. Less than zero, actually. None fricking whatsoever.

Didn't that white reciever for Neutered Dame end up playing pro baseball after he was supposed to be drafted in football?

If CJ is planning on staying at LSU for his senior year...then of course Les Miles isnt gonna let him skip spring practice. And if he is planning on leaving after his junior year..then i guess it doesnt really matter...he can do whatever he wants.

After watching the kind of stuff CJ has as a lefty pitcher...and the fact that you will have a much longer career in baseball than football on avg...not to mention the lower chance of overall physical problems later in life..i would suggest he try his luck with baseball. But it really comes down to what he loves to do. If he loves football more, then he can have a great career as a safety. If he loves baseball more, then he could have a great career as a relief pitcher...or even an outfielder if given a chance. He's a rare athlete.

CJ loves baseball and wasnt he drafted by the Astros out of high school? Plus with Mitchell leaving there might be a chance for him to win an OF spot, or maybe he'll pitch more. But no way does he give up baseball entirely.

Miles has already specified that Ron Cooper is to release Jones from practice immediately when he is needed in relief. CJ will have mastered his safety position so thoroughly that he can demonstrate QB seek-and-destroy skills to Loston while twittering with the other hand, and thus will be in touch with Coach Grewe. Not needing pads due to his ninja football skills, Chad will practice in his baseball uni and be ready to Harley over to the mound at the Box in a moment's notice to strike out the side when Ross gets in a jam. He won't even break a sweat.
