For some reason Ed had it in his little medulla oblongata that Jack Bech needed to be pigeon holed into being a TE. I always saw him as a WR (Damn good one at that) and thought trying to get him to bulk up was retarded and could be a detriment to his development. Do you think BK will put him back at WR?

We should, and I assume we will, use him in different ways. He can put his hand in the dirt or split out wide - like he did this past year. Don't see the need to get hung up on labels.

Absolutely, Bech does not fit his mold of TE (frankly no ones mold of TE). Kole Taylor is more of BK type of TE. Bech will move to slot and will be All-SEC if not All-American by the time he leaves.

He had him in the position so that he could get on the field.

I don't know if you heard that we hired a new coach. His name is Brian Kelly.

Seems like a nice guy.

He lined up wide, his position label matters less than your misunderstanding of human anatomy

He never really played TE. Basically was a slot WR all year

Being able to play out wide and in-line is better for LSU and better for Bech. This is a dumb thread.

I don't care where he lines up. Just get that man the ball.

Are you implying he couldn’t line up outside at wide recevier?

Yeah he was a “TE”
On paper and sometimes we longed him up to block.

The TE position is rough though.

Taylor ain’t great at anything. Mash burn is a blocking TE which is nice and all, but we sorta need more.

Do we really want Jack lined up against nickel corners? Or continue to create a mismatch against LB's and safeties? If you really watched, he did much better when schemed in open space on motion/reverse rollouts, RPO's and out of the H-back position, many times out of motion, sometimes in a bunch formation. He was less successsful against corners in tight man. You put him out wide all the time and he will draw the sticky corners more often. I think the TE label is just that, doesnt' matter, I think you line him up where he will have the best chance at success.

We were lite at TE. With JB speed and ability he can easily turn into a "Gronk". It has worked very well for him.

We can just call him a WR and line him up tight and in the backfield to get one on one mismatches.

There were many reasons to bash O. This isn't one of them. They didn't intend for Bech to be a TE. Circumstances forced the coaching staff into doing so (essentially one scholarship TE...who wasn't all that great). Now, you can blame the coaches (I guess) for letting the depth chart get to that point, but Bech to TE was more out of necessity than anything else.

It was not a strategic choice, evidenced by the fact he didn't play much TE this year.
