I did not take the comment of having a chance to compete as only meaning the number 2 spot.

Nuss believes he is better than Daniels and can win the job in the spring. If he continues to show improvement on the things he and Kelly talk about (taking unnecessary risks) then there is no reason to believe he wouldn't have a chance to compete.

Also even if he doesn't get significant playing time Daniels is out after this next season so that would leave Nuss with 2 more years to play if he continues to hold of Walker Howard.

Now that doesn't mean he isn't going to transfer after the spring but from a player who loves LSU and wants to be the QB at LSU he is going to compete until he doesn't see that happening.

barring injury to Daniels

This is why, for the immediate reason. Hes one play away, especially the way Daniel plays.

Long term he has the best chance to succeed here; knows the offense and already built rapport.

So Jaden will start. If starting next year is important to Nuss he should transfer. If not, he should accept the back up position and he will start for one year the following year.
Nuss would have 2 years.
He'll be a redshirt sophomore next season

Our staff has seen more of these QB's on a daily basis than any of us. One half of football doesn't erase what could be a disastrous display on the practice field with turnovers and recklessness that Nuss could be battling.

His best throws are beautiful, but his bad throws are Max Johnson/TJ Finley/Jarrett Lee/Brandon Harris/Andrew Hatch/Anthony Johnson-esque.

Daniels at least usually has another weapon when he can't get it goin in the passing game and it jumpstarts the offense. If Nuss is still too inconsistent passing, what else can he do?

Let's hope they all stay because it's in their best interest. They all need work and should be much better year 2 in the system.

It doesn't seem that close in Kelly's eyes based on his own statements

But it does seem that close based on his actions. He played Nuss on the 3rd drive when he didn't have to. Maybe he only did that to keep Nuss around but I don't think that's how BK operates. He plays the best player and playing Nuss early in the game was a sign that he thinks he is in the same tier as JD.

Change third string to second...

I don't doubt the kid wants to be here, he was the biggest "lsu" guy in his class

I have no doubt that he thinks he can beat our Jayden

My biggest worry is money. Bama and UGA both offered Drake Maye 5 million to transfer.

Nuss obviously isn't going to demand that but this natty run has that TCU fan base fired up. It's very likely that Nuss is going to get offered 200-500k and a starting position at another P5 job.

That's hard to pass up for anyone. All of us on this board would tell our sons to leave for half a million dollars and a starting job. It's hard to imagine a world where Nuss doesn't receive attention.

Kid literally has Heisman odds and his coach has openly said that he won't be the starter.

Nuss is 2nd string behind a QB who is the leading rusher. that typically doesn't bode well for someone staying healthy long term.

That doesn't really hit the same when you consider that Nuss threw for 300 yards on Georgia in a half and played damn well in the bowl.

Kid is at +3500 to win the Heisman right now. You're fricking retarded if you think teams aren't calling him or are going to call him.

He's going to have to turn down some real money to stay at LSU.

Because he's happy and loves LSU. Apparently, a lot more than many of the goofballs on this site.
Joe Burrow loved Ohio State but he didn't allow it to cripple his career. It's a business decision, best to leave emotions out of it

I think he leaves and it's probably smart to stay through spring to let other QB battles settle themselves to see where a good landing spot is.

Dude is a stud; he's not sitting next year. Of course, we don't want it to happen, but I don't blame him.

I agree that if he doesn't think he has a good chance to start then he should leave so he can get an entire spring under his belt at another school.

Joe left to so that he could start is RS Jr year as he had gotten passed up by Dwayne Haskins, who was a year younger than him. If Nuss stays, he be the favorite to his RS JR year, just like Burrow.

I don’t think it’s Nuss you have to be worried about leaving. It’s Howard. If Nuss stays it’s his team in 2024. Howard didn’t come here to sit for 3 years. He came to redshirt and sit possibly 1.

Every team has a backup. Should he lose the job to JD, he knows he is just 1 injury, bad series(coaching decision), etc. away from stepping right in.

Also he would be the solidified starter for ‘24

Fans don't wanna admit the truth that the transfer portal brings to light

These kids have dreams, too. We know as fans that our team needs depth, so we want to keep kids like Nuss who are great depth and give us security

But Nuss is a kid with dreams and he can't achieve them if he's a backup for life. Any kid that has self respect and thinks they can do more to achieve their dreams is going to transfer. It's just life. Just like you would leave a job if you felt you could earn more for your family or whatever your own dream is at some other job

He has a legit shot at winning the job in the spring, and if not, will for sure be the starter in 2024.

Those are all valid points and not any that I have thought of yet. Thanks.

his words and actions seem to differ

Nuss got meaningful snaps in the bowl game, not just garbage time. I think both will be given the opportunity to play/compete for the job, wouldn't worry too much about what he's telling the media
