Not on pure talent

Its because Jason Kelly is way better than Alan Dunn and JJ has a better feel for the game than Paul

Also a bunch of our better guys are Freshman or transfers

I'm on record from the beginning of the year saying starting pitching was our biggest question mark, and there are obviously some holes that still need to be filled.

I think it took some time for them to figure out some things (realizing Ty Floyd should not be starting games). And I will give Kelly and Johnson credit for figuring out what works best. That was just my response to him saying that Mainieri ran the program into the ground, which is just an over exaggeration.

Hitting is streaky.

It's going to cause us to win games we should not, and lose games we should win.

LSU built SEC baseball. Now we are just a middle of the pack program. I guess it is my pride and ego, but I think LSU baseball should always be in the top 4 teams in the SEC conference. Seems embarrassing that Arkansas, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are stronger than our program .

I agree, and couldn’t help but think this is how Bama feels about football, and Kentucky feels about basketball.

Arky pitching is at a elite level when they are all healthy and the were for the 1st time this weekend. That being said our defense is well below par and have cost us every week. That must be fixed.

Oh good, another thread about the demise of our baseball team. We're half way through the first season of a new coach playing with a mixed bag of players. Weaknesses and issues have been exposed. But that doesn't mean the program is off the rails or JJ was a bad hire or there's no hope. It sucks right now, but it's all a process. At least give it a couple of seasons before you start moaning about how bad things are.

Will you admit Russian or Pancho or whatever alter this is that Johnson and Kelly are far better than the last 2 we had with respect to managing the bull pen?

Give credit my arse. They have done miracles with the shite that was left and being able to fill holes. The ONLY issue I have is the 2 middle infielders.
BOTH were leftovers and BOTH WERE SUB PAR TO TERRIBLE defensively LAST YEAR.
Defense is the issue with this team.

That defense hurts starting pitching.

Those cost a minimum of 5 games I minimum. Add 5 games to the results and people would be ecstatic about the future. If Thompson fielded at the level he did last season, people wouldn’t be griping nearly as much and that fielding was a laughable .937. I mean, that is just not good.

Do you just call whoever doesn't agree with you a Russian or Poncho alter? But sure if that makes you happy, they have been better at managing the bullpen.

Yes, a lot of posters here predicted a 15-15 season and we are about on track for that. Our pitching has turned out better than expected particularly the bullpen but our timely hitting and fielding has to improve quickly.

Ok. Please give me the “roots”. If another poster believes that these guys aren’t practicing from throwing from different spots on the field or the fact that a player like Thompson doesn’t “practice”, they aren’t seeing the roots because that is simply untrue.

The truth has been the roster is limited. There are players like Doughty, Dugas and Thompson who were all recruited by the previous staff and all played SS in high school are not college level SS. I saw enough of Thompson last season to tell that.

You should read the rant again where it doesn't badmouth the team, just points out that we aren't good enough to compete right now. I didn't call them garbage as some of these jerks do. They just need to improve to stay with the pack.
