Why didn't LSU storm the field when they beat Alabama in 2010?

This article says the last time a team didn't storm the field in an Alabama road loss was lsu in 2010. What was the reason for the students not storming? That was only Sabans fourth year when he was really hated by lsu fans. Also lsu lost in 2008 and 2009 and I remember les was under a lot of pressure to beat Nick Saban

LSU still had the mentality of being Goliath instead of David.

Because we were used to winning and being in the conversation back then.

That said, why rushing the field after a huge home win is such a big deal to some people is beyond me. I don't care.

Honestly I don’t remember fans rushing the field very much before 2010 - did they do it in 07?

I guess #12 LSU beating #5 Bama didn’t seem like that big of a deal at the time

Back in 2010, LSU had won 6 of the last 8, but that was the first 1 in 3 years.

storming the field wasn't en vogue nation-wide like it has become in recent years

also, it had been a whole 2 straight losses to Alabama. They hadn't exactly established a dynasty. They had won 1 title under Saban at that point, and we had kind of owned Alabama the past decade entering that game (7-3 over the prior 10 seasons). Alabama had also already lost a game back when losing one game could possibly end your national title hopes.

But mainly, storming the field has just become way more common-place than it was in 2010. I blame social media

We were Bama’s daddy prior to 2011 national championship. Good times

I remember being at that one in the student section. Randle making that huge catch near the end. It felt like a big game but paled in comparison to the 2014 night game (don't even get me started on that one).

LSU stormed the field twice...in 2000. Once after a OT win over #11 Tennessee. The second was a win over unranked, 3-5, Alabama. They then stormed the field again in 2001 after beating Auburn to win the SEC west. Storming the field in college football was just as common then.

Prior to 2022, the last time I recall LSU fans storming the field was when LSU beat #3 Ole Miss in 2014. Of course, in that game LSU was un (or barely) ranked.

I'll give LSU fans a bit of a pass here. The last two field rushes have one thing in common. They came after walk-of scores in OT vs. arguably LSU's two most hated "rivals" to conclude two tense and highly emotional games. Had LSU led by a TD or so in both games and spent the final minutes running out the clock by taking a knee you probably don't see a field rush. But I I think the excitement of the way both games ended led to fans just spontaneously running on to the field. (See LSU's convincing win over #2 Georgia in 2018 when the result was well in hand in the final few minutes and no one rushed the field)

EDT: I stand corrected. Fans did rush the field after the 2018 UGA game.

It depends how you win these games. If they are won in dramatic fashion then expect the field to get stormed. If LSU finishes the game in the victory formation, half the stadium will likely be stuck in traffic instead of storming the field.

The article must not have mentioned the part where that was the 8th LSU victory over Bama in 11 yrs. We also beat them in 2011 to make a 9 for 12 run on the Tide…
