Forget about 5th years. We’ve got guys all over the country in their 6th and 7th year.

How everyone is just fine with that is beyond me.

It’s a new 5 for 5 rule and applies to every class except for 2022. A judge said nope, it applies to them too

No one is fine with it. However no one has a say because athletes keep going to courts and getting injunctions. This allows the judge to kill the rules without actually allowing the rules to have their day in court.

This may have been answered already, sorry if I'm repeating something:

Since the rule said 5 years starting in 2023, but now it's gone back to 2022, is there anything stopping an earlier class from saying the same thing?

No such thing as a redshirt anymore.

Hopefully this includes medical redshirts. If you unfortunately get injured and have to miss a significant amount of time, you should not be rewarded with a 6th or 7th season. You may not be able to go pro because of this, but you got your free degree in that time.

It’s great and all but don’t kid yourself to think there will no longer be any 6th or 7th year guys. Kids who get hurt and miss a year will take it to the courts and the courts will rule in their favor since they have always given extra year for injuries. Will definitely happen. So all this court crap is not going away. May be much fewer cases yearly but they will still be there

The rule started with the HS Class of 2023 not in 2023. Yes, the rule that the NCAA published until a few Class of 2022 athletes sued and had an injunction filed in July.

1. If any of these players had actually made an NFL roster they would not be trying to come back to college.

2. Who gives a shite if the NFL likes it or not?

Yeah, for any prior class then more than 5 years have already passed. So freshman class of 2021 would have exhausted their 5 years at the end of the 2025 season

Exactly....virtually no foresight by the NCAA idiots. All they had to do is make the 5 for 5 rule starting date Sept 1, 2027. But no, and they created this mess 1000%. Totally preventable

They basically did exactly what you suggest. Announced it the day after all sports for the academic year were complete and said the new rules apply to those enrolling in the fall semester. A start date of Sep 1st wouldn't have changed anything. If you're suggesting an announcement date of Sep 1 then we would have a whole year of entitled athletes filing suit because they refuse to move on.

quote:

The rule change will be effective for all prospects initially enrolling full time in college in fall 2027 or later.

The notion that these athletes are entitled to another year is a complete load of crap. The real culprit in all of this is the judges who continue to rule via RTO and Injunctions. Had Charlotte Sweeney let this actually play out in court we wouldn't be here today. Instead they issue injunctions which ultimately kills the case without an actual ruling on the actual legalities or the merits of case because it makes the case moot before it has its day in court.

Guy, the 5 for 5 rule WAS UNFAIR to the 2022 class. Thank you BTW for quoting the rule which EXPLICTLY does say that 2025-2026 players are NOT eligible. That IS the point and why it is unfair. .

So for you slow to get the point, the NCAA SCREWED the class of 2022 and that is the only class who were denied the extra year. 2020 got the COVID year, 2021 got the COVID year, and 2023 class and others will get the 5 for 5 extra eligibility. Bottom line: 2022 class has been unfairly treated. I suggest you retake Math 101, sit in the front of the class, and stay awake this time. God man, it is incredibly easy to understand! Maybe a class of 2022 player ran over your dog or something.

when 5 for 5 became the law of the land it was only after these kids thought they had exhausted their eligibility.

So many declared for the draft, didn't get drafted, and signed as UFA. Most of the contracts are not guaranteed and contingent on making the team.

The guy the Saints had a 2 million dollar contract. But no signing bonus and contract was contingent on making team. He only got a per diem for lunch money.

Now the guys that didn't go to NFL camps are all back in schools. ex. our TE from Notre Dame.

There are no redshirts of any kind anymore which has been ridiculously confusing for years...our boy Trinidad and his "retroactive redshirt" at the top of the list. I would also like to see the end of the Mormon missions which has mid 20 year old players for BYU. You get 5 years eligibility RIGHT AFTER HS. That part the NCAA DID get right.

There was really no good reason to leave them in either. They played out their eligibility without any expectation of another year.

Nonsense comment...2020 got an extra year...2021 class got an extra year...2023 to infinity will get an extra year. The ONLY class this decade that won't get the extra year if the NCAA wins this case is the 2022 class. That is 100% UNFAIR! If you can't comprehend that, it is on you! You are just STUPID...oh, and you like the word UNFAIRNESS so much I will repeat that word just for you.

Dude I'm sorry the NCAA took away your extra year of eligibility and it hurts your feelings when someone doesn't agree with your OPINIONS.

Since you want to bring math into the conversation riddle me this Einstein. There are 134 FBS Programs who just signed approximately 23 players each. Each of these programs and recruits made decisions based on needs with the understanding that the Class of 22 has played out its eligibility. Each program is limited to 85 scholarship spots and a total of 105 roster spots. If the NCAA retroactively granted the Class of '22 another year as you have so passionately and eloquently suggested. Who loses their roster spots to the approximately 2,400 Class of 22 players who retroactively regained eligibility?

Since your entitled arse is all about fairness. If you are the NCAA, who are you going to screw the 2,400 players who played out their eligibility under the rules that they signed up for or the 2,400 incoming freshmen/currently eligible student athletes?

Since you believe this rule was so unfair there are currently 45 Class of 22 football players suing the NCAA for an extra year. What percentage of Class of '22 NCAA football players have failed to realize its time for them to join the other 98% of student athletes who go pro in something other than sports and are suing to get their way?

Maybe you and the other 44 should realize LIFE'S NOT FAIR!
