I would also like to see the end of the Mormon missions which has mid 20 year old players for BYU.

How juvenile are you? You expect them to give up their faith to play a game while screaming from the mountaintops that Class of 22 should get another year!

Thanks guys for setting me straight. I was lost on the 5 for 5 and didn't have knowledge of it. I think I'm onboard fighting this because why single out 2022 class.
I don't understand why the NCAA is fighting it so hard. You guys made a bad rule that singled out a single class year and the judge just "Lee Corso'd " you and "not so fast".
It is an unfair rule. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on 5 for 5.

1. If any of these players had actually made an NFL roster they would not be trying to come back to college.

What about when guys start getting cut in week 4 of the season and decide they wanted to come back to college?

2. Who gives a shite if the NFL likes it or not?

Uh college football definitely does. NFL is king and college football falls in line to please them.

At this point they kind of have to. If they don’t, guys can theoretically just sign with colleges at any point throughout the year if they get cut from an NFL team. Imagine during Bama’s bye week, the week before they play LSU, they decide that they want to sign 5 guys that spent the first 7 weeks of the season on an NFL roster

No, they can’t. The line in the sand is signing a contract. Anyone on a roster has signed ones. These guys aren’t arguing that they should be able to sign after signing with the NFL. There are multiple athletes across multiple sports.

Also, that door has already been opened by the SEC. They allowed Texas, Missouri and USCe to all sign players that participated in NFL activities. The line in the sand they’ve drawn is signing a contract, so that loophole getting exploited is on the SEC. Players will start testing the NFL waters in camps, refuse contract if they don’t like the terms and then return to college if they have eligibility left. Thats the loophole now.

These guys are arguing they fall under the 5 for 5 umbrella, but were never afforded the choice to return because of its timing.

Huh? There’s players that have signed NFL contracts that are trying to play for LSU…

Imo, it was never really that “unfair” for the class of 2022. They had the same rules that everyone before them had.

I don't disagree. However, if that was the case they should have waited until September to announce the rule change. Making it in the summer made this extremely muddy and gave the players a legitimate argument. If this rule was implemented in September-November this wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah but that’s not their argument. Their argument is they fall under the 5 for 5 umbrella and only signed those contracts because they were told they were out of eligibility.

Again, that is why there are multiple athletes across multiple sports involved in this lawsuit. It’s an argument for eligibility under 5 for 5 since other players have already been allowed back.

You’re missing the forest for the trees.

Society just can’t handle rules or being told no in 2026. Everyone has to have it their way. This goes for young and old people.

Nobody wants to follow any rules.

playing baseball and then starting your CFB career at 21, none of that. 5 year clock starts once you enroll in college or the school year after you turn 19 no matter what. So no more 25 year olds

Yeah. Not sure how I feel about this. Mauck, Booty and others would not have been allowed to play under this rule. I can see this rule being challenged at some point. Not that they’ll succeed

This.

It should have been implemented before the NFL and NBA drafts, or after both of those seasons had started and the door for enrollment was shut.

Legitimate question, what difference would that have made? If they made the announcement of the rule yesterday, would players not have the same argument?

Even though it’s a joke, you still have to be enrolled in the university to play.

That’s literally the argument you just made. You said that the line in the sand is signing a NFL contract. There are currently players fighting against that “line in the sand”.

I don’t know if you realize that there are multiple different lawsuits about different rules. The hearing today is about whether the SEC is able to punish schools for having players that have signed pro contracts.

No, it’s not. I know you REALLY struggle with comprehension, but try to follow along.

These players are suing because they weren’t granted their 5th year of eligibility under the new rules while other players were. Other players who went through the same process they did. Entered their respective professional avenues.

The SEC has drawn a line in the sand at signing a contract, not the players.

Wrong again.

The lawsuit today is about the SEC denying certain players their 5th year of eligibility, not pro contracts. The SEC is trying to turn it in a pro vs. amateur dispute, but that’s going to have to be done in a separate lawsuit.

This is simply an injunction to grant these players the extra year of eligibility they believe they’re entitled to under the new rules.

Again, you can’t see the forest for the trees.

Argument? Yes but the season has already started. You're not going to have the amount of time to get the players to campus and back to College that they did by announcing it in the summer.

is there anything stopping an earlier class from saying the same thing?

The fact that earlier classes are already more than 5 years passed their "college entry date."

If someone enrolled in college for the 2021 season, their 5 years were 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025. That's why the 2021 class isn't affected.

The issue is really only for the 2022 class that were isolated and not granted the 5th yr. This won't apply in the future unless they come out early with eligibility left and try to make a NFL team without entering the draft. If they enter the draft, they are done.

Exactly.

I do find it hilarious that the SEC has opened the loophole of players being able to “try out” for an NFL team before returning to college and long as they have eligibility left, don’t enter the draft and don’t sign a contract.
