It seems his presence would really have benefitted Joe.

I thought it as more of Andrew wanting a team that had a chance at his age.

Whitworth left the Bengals before Joe even left Ohio St.

They offered him a one year deal worth 10M with incentives and Rams offered him 3 years at 11M. Bengals were just cheap about it. Rams saw value in him. Bengals didn't.

Or, he left them for more money in LA.

The Bungels have a history of being a bad franchises

I think They low balled him because of his age and he walked got a better contract and now has played a good while for the rams.

I mean the bengals were definitely cheap but drafted well and played well during the marvin era.

I did not say that Whitworth's decision was made with Joe Burrow in mind. I asked why Whitworth left, and noted that if he were still playing for the Bengals, rather than the Rams, his presence would benefit Burrow.

Who's not paying attention?

It’s hard to believe he’s 40 and still playing at this level. He’s probably played long enough and well enough to be considered borderline HOF candidate.

Whitworth left as free agent.

In the Bengals defense, there was little reason to believe Whitworth would continue playing at the level he was playing at when he left. It doesn't take long for the wheels to fall off, and they didn't want to invest the money in an aging player. Who really could have known that Whit would age like fine wine?

Thenhad. 5 year stretch in the Marvin Lewis era when they were good enough to lose in the first round of the playoff the first 8 years they were mediocre.

The last 3 years they were bad.

Bengals didn't want to pay his salary and Social Security.

Kidding, of course. Guy will waltz into the HOF.

tackles are not good bets to remain good players at 35+. Whitworth has defied the odds

I'll give you the benefit of doubt on this one. I never cared to watch a single Bengals game until Burrow was drafted by them.

I think Whit was tired of residing in the basement.
