Why did Odell Beckham drop so many passes as a sophomore?

The guy was about as sure handed as it gets freshman and junior years, and he has maybe the best hands in the whole NFL now.

What happened sophomore year? Seemed like he had a dropped pass in every game that year

Maybe he trained hard in the off season going into his junior year.

Actually the answer is pretty simple, and is contained in the saying, "Nothing breeds failure like success." When a person - especially a young person - works hard and has great success, he often reaches a point of overconfidence at which point he stops doing the things that brought success.

This is one reason why Hannibal Barca, who was unbeatable because of his attention to detail, eventually lost to Scipio. It is why Manieri's program took a brief dive after he won the natty.

OBJ lost concentration for a while, but bore down and recovered. Another factor with receivers is that they try to do too much, focusing on the run after the catch instead of looking the ball into their hands. Jerry Rice had this problem as a rookie.

At the time, he was on a strict popcorn diet. That was quickly annexed.
