I’d rather every cent go to the players than to a mug.

you get something back from that. What do you get out of giving lsu players money?

you follow Bayou Traditions or go to LSUsports.net, they have giveaway offers all the time. Prints, rings, meet and greets, etc.

They need to do it at scale and have better visibility and publicity, then

God looking back this was so cringy and lame. LSU thought they were out in front of this by putting an ad in Times Square, bringing some athletes out there, and shooting a video

To be fair, not many people saw the “collective” thing coming.

LSU just devoted resources to do NIL the right way before realizing pay for play was just going to be allowed.

But they definitely should be criticized for how slowly they didn’t turn the ship once UT and A@M showed the way

This is what I have been saying for days now. They have a product that people want, just put some skin in the game. I don't know what limitations are, but raffling off two suite tickets for baseball regional could pull in some serious money. Even some of the program issued gear that the public doesn't get would probably fetch some good money. Make it feel like people are getting something in tangible in return.

Seriously. Give them a 2% commission or something. They (and the school) could make a FORTUNE.

A better football team?. The logical connection is not that hard to make. Football programs require donations from their fanbase to be successful. It used to be a facilities arms race. Now it’s paying players. Either we want to do everything possible to try to make the playoffs on a yearly basis. Or we are fine sitting back and hoping the stars align for us once or twice a decade to win a championship.

That’s gambling your money. At least you can justify spending money if you get some kind of memorabilia

And it flywheels itself because you see the mug or shirt or whatever and remember to do it against next year.

Plus, corporate or personal gifts are more fun. You can’t just say “here’s a present, I bought a yearly NIL donation for you”

But you can gift a $500 limited run Joe Burrow Heisman yeti and signed LSU helmet.

This is easy stuff

Not sure how much you get around, there are plenty, and I mean plenty of well off LSU alums. They are everywhere. LSU does not sell 77,000 season tickets because everyone here is poor. Their problem has been outreach. TAF, which now acts as the middleman for Bayou Traditions, has done a terrible job with outreach.

Is our administration that stupid??? Ray Charles, Helen Keller, and Stevie Wonder could all see CLEARLY that NIL was gonna quickly turn into just buying athletes.

And our brass couldn't figure that out??

If you look at who is getting or was getting the big NIL bucks it’s Livy and Angel in sports that frankly don’t matter. The only coach really using NIL well currently at LSU is JJ which isn’t a surprise he would be on top of the new system.

The videos were lame and it was all smoke and mirrors. The fact is Scott is the only person scared of the ncaa, bama and ole miss gave no shits about rules.

nope. help Jakeem Stewart get to his $2mill/year ransom demand even though he's only played 11 HS football games. All you get in return is the hope he stays on campus for more than one season.

but in all seriousness, you have yourself a good idea

Yes our admin was and it’s the LSU way. Hopefully we can dig ourselves out of the hole we were in.

It’s frankly a lame excuse for Scott to say I was doing it the right way. Well guess what Aggy, bama, ole miss and Ohio state weren’t. All but aggy are lapping us in results. Scott is extremely risk averse and just not great at reading the room.

IMO, there needs to be levels you meet to receive certain “valuables”. Ideas:

>$100 - LSU Booster Polo
>$500 - Polo and signed poster from CBK
>$1000 - Polo, team signed poster
>$5000 - Polo, signed poster, sideline pass for 1 game
>$10,000 - Polo, LSU Booster windbreaker, team signed poster, (2) passes for 2 games
>$25,000 - LSU Polo & windbreaker, team signed poster, (2) sideline passes for 4 games
>$50,000 - LSU Polo/windbreaker, TSP, (2) season tickets, (2) sideline passes to 2 games

And so forth…..

Not that I give a crap about it, but BT did send me some stuff for donating—an artist print that's still in the shipper and something else that slips my mind.

An overhaul of their apparel is needed. Like the OP says, people will donate if they get something tangible back. There are massive margins on clothing. The selection on BT right now could be better. It looks like a 20-year-old curated the collection. I'd happily spend a grand on Xmas gifts, but I don't even know if I could justify spending $100 on the crap they have on there.

That's how donations work.

Right; but NIL at its root isn't a donation scheme. This would be directly in line with what it was supposed to be. If LSU can scheme up a t shirt, mug, yeti cup, or get some players to sign some mini helmets when they are being paid 6 figures + as an unproven freshmen, then that's an LSU leadership problem
