Was it ever confirmed the names on their short list? I know it's irrelevant and we will never know, but I'm curious who we would have narrowed it down to.
Gundy?
Fleck?
Durkin?

Gundy would be awesome

Depends on WHO is conducting the search.

I had a TCU alum tell me that Patterson was the next coach if Miles would have been canned at end of 2015...

Apparently Gundy was the only one who straight up said he wasn’t interested. Not sure Alleva ever had a list

Would be a great fit. Power offense with focus on a fast defense

Moscona said Gundy let it be known through back channels early in the search process that he wasn't interested. TIFWIW

I'd heard the opposite. We'll never know who did / did not express interest.
I'm 100% certain CEO wasn't the best available option, though.

We’d have settled for Fedora.

I believe that after seeing that he and Les are actually still friends on the podcast.

Forget about Gundy and Patterson. They are solid till they're done. A guy I work with (M.D. / OU alum) believes Stoops is also done for good.
INPO-
Mullen
Venables
Leach
Fleck
Brohm
And finally, a name to keep an eye on that I really like- scott frost @ UCF

Would have taken Chryst, Patterson, Gundy, Fedora, Mullen, Franklin, Leach, Fleck, the North Dakota State coach, or pretty much any current head coach in the country over Orgeron.

It was pretty well known here in Oklahoma that Gundy had a fragile relationship (at best) with OkSt last year. I have family that often works alongside the athletics department in Stillwater, and they said the threat was very real and present.
Now, T. Boone would have thrown the bank at Gundy to keep him, but Gundy would certainly have entertained the offer.
I personally think (and wish) it would have been either Patterson or Fleck. Peterson would have been a damn solid hire too though. Oh, what could have been...

I don't think Alleva would have made this quality of hire.
