Leach would be awesome. My first choice. I would think LSU could nab him from Wash St.

We need a guy like Leach. He's not just a coach, he's got the type of famous personality and 'do it my way' attitude that would be a great fit to put LSU back on the map immediately.

The state is extremely ripe for his type of offense. Louisiana is loaded at WR year in and year out, and QBs would be beating down the door for a chance to throw up 350-400 yards a game in a Mike Leach offense.

Leach always gets QBs, that's for sure. Some are better than others but his offense is prolific every year.

Also, his coaching tree is impressive. He's got Holgerson, Briles, Kingsbury, Lincoln Riley, and the guy that just whipped our arse, Neal Brown.

Plus he's only 56, so he's still got some gas left in the tank. Orgeron is only 56.

There would have been coaches who didn’t want to express interest when the Jimbo and Herman rumors were prevalent, but would have once those two passed (as it would have been a more open process).

That being said, ill say Dan Mullen

Whoever it would have been would have been a lightweight with about the same results.... LSU does not have a lot of talent like some people think.....

bullshite, 99% of all the college coaches right now would have LSU at 5-0. This is the easiest September schedule LSU has had in a long long time.

I think it would of been Fuente. I think he was 3rd on Aleva’s list. The problem would of been the buy out.

Gunny told agents he wasn’t interested.

Mike Leach reeeeaaalyyy wanted it.
As well as Fleck and the Colorado coach.

Leach would be very interesting. I think out of all of them he would have the best chance of getting LSU back into the Championship. What he has done at Texas Tech and Wash St. is impressive. However, I could understand why an AD would have reservations.

How you figure that there cupcake? By the production on the field? LSU has more talent on the field then 80% (I just made that up, but it's close) of the teams out there. AND THEY LOST TO frickING TROY!! And got embarrassed by MSU. And have looked like they had a clue against only a HORRIBLE BYU team.

Given the choice between Leach and O, which would you have more reservations about?!

Was it ever confirmed the names on their short list?
-------

Chris Landry, former NFL scout for the Cleveland Browns and friend of Nick Saban, not only confirms that their short list was Jimbo, than Herman, but he explains the back story on how Nick Saban came to LSU, the circumstances around Saban's departure to Miami, the events that led to the hiring of Les Miles, the back story on how Alleva mishandled Miles' firing, and how we ended up with Orgeron.

LINK

Take 45 minutes to listen to his story, decide for yourself if it rings true with what you've seen and heard starting all the way back to when the Saban era began at LSU.

I don't think Mr. Landry is spinning a tall tale, or I wouldn't take all this time trying to explain how much it helped me better understand how we got to this point. And I think fans who love LSU would be better served, going into the next 2-3 years, with a crystal clear idea of what it took to raise the LSU football program out of (pre-Saban) mediocrity - because we CAN do it again.

It's imperative that Joe Alleva be replaced with an Athletic Director that not only knows football, but knows how to negotiate contracts while avoiding the pitfall of egocentric decision-making! I will never root against my Tigers to lose, and the road ahead looks bumpy to me, but it takes more than a coaching search to fix this mess and Landry explains the WHY of it.

I would have reservations about Leach, I would not even consider Coach o. Even my reservations about Leach have nothing about winning games its just about him being hard to manage if I were an AD. Same thing can be said about Nick. Leach in Baton Rouge would be fun.
