JD5, he touched the ball every play

For his position, it was Mathieu, but Daniels was a QB, and he dominated games far more than Mathieu.

Easy, Mathieu, he was a DB and rarely had the opportunity to touch the ball. A QB touches the ball every time he’s on field.

People that said Daniel’s never watch lsu back in the day day

In fairness, every play that Mathieu touched the ball led to the offense taking over or a touchdown.

HB was the best. Daniel's had help with Nabers and BJT just like Joe had with Chase and Jefferson. Without those great wide receivers they aren't even considered for the Heisman. HB made his plays on his own and was a Heisman finalist not based of off his ability to hookup with other great players. HB took what he wanted and didn't need help to get what he wanted.

JD was an animal, and as the QB he touched the ball every play
but TM7, that guy was something different. If he wasn't intercepting the ball, he was knocking it loose and some how still recovering it and scoring. shite that first game against Texas A&M back in like 2011 or 2012, he was a monster that game and they took away one of his pick 6's that game from a phantom call
West Virgina game I've never seen a guy so disruptive, shite same goes for that Kentucky game he had. And he did all of this on defense and special teams. One of my favorite all time plays is that 2011 game where he was a gunner and hit the punt returner and then scooped and scored the punt.
He put up career numbers for most athletes in a few games.

If HB scores another td on the second long return against UGA, he probably wins the heisman as a db.

Its easy to say JD5 because he touched the ball every play so you would have a higher chance of seeing his playmaking ability. However, Mathieu only had a handful of opportunities and was electric almost every opportunity. There has not been another Mathieu but there have been plenty of electric dual threat QBs. Mathieu in 2011 was unreal. What he could have done in 2012 could have been very special if it wasn't for his off-field issues.

Tyrann Mathieu is the best football player I’ve ever seen.

Going to say Daniels by a smidgen but that was only because he touched the ball so much.
HB7 made your hackles rise every time he even got near the ball.

Imagine Barion Brown form his two returns in the bowl game, every time he touches the ball.. That was the HB7. Themn make him an elite defender

I respect everyone’s annswer, and all respect to TM7, one of the goats without a doubt. Jayden Daniels is the answer. He has one of the greatest offensive seasons of all time. Look no further than the Florida game for your answer.
TM7 literally changed momentum in games and in the SEC title game at that.
I expect the offense to score. You typically do not expect the defense, and to some extent ST to do so.

Going with JD, because there were long periods of games where TM was not involved. Some posters seem to have some recall bias slanted in TM's favor.
In addition, TM penalized for being on the field 1/9/12 - and I seem to recall a few passes being completed on him.

Daniels, he won games despite of his terrible defense.
Posted on 12/29/25 at 8:56 am to magildachunks
Daniel’s was unstoppable
Posted on 12/29/25 at 8:59 am to magildachunks
For a stretch of games, Badger would go into games with the whole country saying “no way can he get another ST or def TD” and then he just…would

Daniels touched the ball on every play.
Mathieu had the best instincts to the ball of any defensive player I have ever seen.

HB was one of the most electric, must-watch, anything can happen at any time on both defense and ST players maybe in college football history. At least in recent decades. JD5 was special and deserving of the Heisman but HB’s uniqueness is sort of untouchable.
