Who was LSU’s worst AD

Skip - Smoke, letting Henry (ruined the WT&F dynasty) and Saban walk and not pushing out Les.
Alleva - Not having a real search, not pushing out Les, Mishandling Will Wade situation. Having a long, crooked nosed
Joe Dean - Archer, Curley hirings (Saban hire technically and we are not giving that to a university president because all coaching hires are assigned to the AD in charge at the time.), Pat Henry hire (brought the most natty’s of any coach ever).
Scott Woodward - Orgeron’s extension and massive buyout, Firing WW without show cause so he can hire his own guy, Matt McMahon. Kelly 10 year worse than Jimbo contract when he knew NIL would change recruiting and keeping in state talent home was a matter of money, keeping Beth Torino.
Does football failed coaches trump all other accomplishments.

The punchabilty of this face alone is enough to crown him the winner of this competition.

Alleva hands down. Having to post the question screams something else.

Alleva had already tried the "let's hire the interim football coach full time" move at Duke, and that didn't turn out well. So he did it again here, and he was the search (meaning there wasn't any). Family members who worked at Duke have told me they were glad to see Alleva go, and Duke didn't put up any resistance after he was offered by LSU. After the lacrosse incident, why did we even offer him?

Woodward doesn't belong on the list

Joe Dean was worse than this looks. He gets ZERO credit for Saban, who he never would have hired. That was Mark Emmert.
Dean made the decision to hire four football coaches, and every decision was horrible. You mention Archer and Hallman, but he also hired DiNardo. And before he hired DiNardo, he offered some coach from Baylor or TCU maybe. Whoever it was had a buyout dispute that ended our contract negotiations, and he stayed put, but he was fired a year or two later.

Non of the ADs, prior to Woodward, had access to all the funding Woodward has at his disposal. Its a new world and Woody can spend as much as he needs.
The others were having to balance a tight budget.
However, non of the ADs prior to Woody had to contend with a "WOKE" University President.

Happy Friday to you too! What a miserable post to start the day with.

You appear to have done an exhaustive research on the history of LSU athletics. I mean, your list of the 4 worst goes all the way back to 4 Athletic Directors.

Agree. He's batting .750 on coaching hires.

Joe Dean is the correct answer to who is the worst AD that you listed, and it is not even close. Dean was the God Ol' Boy network's candidate to wrest control of the Athletic Department after Brodhead had successfully locked them in a closet and had the overall sports programs moving in a positive direction and the Athletic Department running in the black. Everything slipped under Dean and with his cheap ways LSU fell way behind in facilities, upkeep, made cheap coaching hires and the Athletic Department was on shaky ground financially with several monetary scandals and a general lack of oversight which resulted in the issuance of several NCAA probations. There is a lot more to the AD position than hiring coaches.
As to Dean's coaching hires: All that needs to be said is Archer and Hallman back to back for football. Welcome to the depths of the darkest days of LSU football.
Dean is the definition of sucking as an AD.

Woodward is not a good AD. The Jimbo and Kelly contracts are going to bite both schools in the arse for a long time.
The McMahon hiring has been a shite show.
Anyone can throw a shite a ton of someone else's money at overrated coaches, he hasn't shown the ability to find talented up and comers.

Yeah, Woody is taking heat for MBB right now, deservedly so. But he's handled everything else well since he's been here. I'll admit though, I can't comment on any ADs pre-Alleva.

Skip was gone in 2008. There was zero reason to push out Les at that point.

Bob Broadhead and it aint close. When he was A.D. i went in the gift shop at Tiger Stadium to look around. While I was there I asked a gentleman, perhaps in his 60's, if he knew of any old FB games on disk. He said no. He said they had boxes of old film from the 20's in a store room and that Broadhead told him to put them in a dumpster. His reasoning was that if it happened before he came then they were not important.
He was an idiot.
