06 and 07..

And before the 2011 season I said 2012 was the year. I mean after we absolutely wrecked A&M in that bowl game with freshman everywhere on defense.. I was positive 2012 was the year.

And 2015.

2011, I thought they were the best team after the Oregon game and then after Auburn and LSU, I thought I was witnessing the best college football team of all time. Even though I felt that way, I still felt like Bama was gonna win the rematch just based on the psychological impact.

Same here. It was the best regular season I've ever heard of. Really, who has beaten that many top 5 and top 10 teams in a single season? It was ridiculous. Bama was going to win the rematch from the time they were announced. If they played a rubber game, LSU might have had it though.

I've never expected is to be worse than 10-2. With that being said 2007 was the one year I 100% believed preseason we would win it all.

Fwiw 2011 after I witnessed the dismantling of Oregon first hand I knew we would be in it

IMHO: Every dang year since 2002. We have had a legit shot every year. On 2 occasions we followed through. The other years we always opted out one way are another.

Preseason? Almost every year since 2003.
I only began to believe it in 2003 and 2011 about the 2nd or 3d game.
You can't win anything without defense, and the defense those years were super special.

I'm not getting that vibe about this years defense yet. Will see how they gel in the first 3 games.

I actually said before 2011, "if we don't win it this year, it will be a while"

2003...Fan Day.

We had a ton of talent, but there was something different about Mauck that gave the impression he'd stick in the pocket and run less. His arm looked better, and there was just something about that team.

I even created a fake SI NC Mag graphic right after that. It ended up being seen by the team. Michael Clayton printed it out and had it up on his wall in his apartment I was later told. He ended up signing one for me and I have it up in my office.

That was the only time. I've thought we've had shots since then, but that was the only time I literally called that shot.

2007. We looked so good exiting 06 and we had a lot of great players returning. Watching Flynn rip apart Miami in the 05 Peach Bowl gave me the confidence that LSU had it all.

I never had enough faith in Jefferson or Lee. They almost proved me wrong in 2011 but we all know how that turned out. 2012 I wasn't sure how Mett would do so I was cautiously optimisitic preseason of that year. Going into 2013 I really wanted to believe but had my doubts about the defense after losing so many players to the nfl.

Here we are going into the 2015 season and the only 2 things are keeping me from believing 100%. Lack of confidence in QB play and having a thin D-line worry me. If that line holds up and our QB can consistently play at a high level watch out for LSU!

Oh and for those of you who say "we don't even need our QB to play at a high level to win it all, just be better!"....bullshite. I love being positive too but it's rare that a national championship winning QB doesn't consistently play at a high level.

not preseason but I attended the Arizona game in 2003. Had been living in Cali for several years so I had not seen them play in person in several years. When I left that game, the size AND speed of that defense, it was the first time I said I think this LSU team can win it all.
