With the running game we have, we could kill these teams if we had half as good a passing game as they do. That's the only thing we are missing to make us an elite team.

Superior coaches who have proven systems.

You have to admit though that he corrected that pretty damn well. Ole Miss kicked a FG late in the 4th just so they didn't get shut out 42-0.

TCU made noise before going to the Big 12. Then they joined the Big 12 and recruiting opened up even more. They have taken advantage of Texas being down at this time and are building a great program.

They hired a new OC to groom Boykin you moron

I said this on another post but I'll repeat it again here. As a long-time sports bettor, I learned the hard way many years ago, NEVER bet on bowl games that don't have national championship implications. The results are completely unpredictable and mean NOTHING. One team might have something to prove, the other might be treating it as a vacation or otherwise just don't give a shite. Teams don't prepare for non-championship bowl games the same way they prepare for regular season games. Anybody that thinks TCU would have beaten Ole Miss 42-3 during the regular season or that Utah and Oklahoma would have smoked Bama during the regular season are just delusional. Don't worry that Notre Dame beat LSU in the frickin' Nashville bullshite bowl, it means absolutely NOTHING. Notre Dame was out to prove it could play with the SEC. LSU just flat didn't care. They treated it like NFL players treat the Pro Bowl.

TCU actually spends $2M per year more on football than LSU does ($26M to $24M).
LSU significantly outspends Baylor.
Gary Patterson and Art Briles are superb at developing 2 and 3 star talent. Now they're getting 4 and even 5 stars. Both coaches also dominate on their side of the ball (D for Patterson, O for Briles).

I believe both can beat Ohio St.

People said the same thing about Cam last year and now they want a new OC. I deal in trends and results. 2014 could just as easily be an outlier as a constant at this point.

The decline of the University of Texas has given rise to both Baylor and TCU. Texas has been awful. LSU had been raiding Texas for talent for many years until A&M showed up in the SEC. Now A&M, Baylor and TCU are splitting the premier talent in the state of Texas. LSU gets a guy or 2 they go after every year, but the new Big 3 in Texas has passed up UT as the biggest/best programs in the state.
Personally, I'd rather see both Baylor and TCU good than UT. I have never been a fan of UT or the players they produce (minus Earl Campbell).

Both those universities bring in a ton of money from boosters don't let the small school persona hide that

Recruiting Tx kids to play the same offense every school in Tx plays starting in 6th grade. The entire state puts all of there great athletes on O,there's no D played by anyone. Some call it Flag Football or outdoor Arena Ball.

Good coaching and fertile recruiting grounds. Not every kid in Texas wants to play at UT and A&M.

That's a fair point, but if you just look at the last five years, Patterson will probably have more top 5 finishes than LSU, more bowl wins and more major bowl wins. They may finish in the top 5 this year and they finished #2 in 2010 along with a Rose Bowl win. LSU has only had one top-5 finish in the last five years and that was obviously finishing #2 in 2011. We are 2-3 in bowls since 2010. So it's not exactly like he is a one-hit-wonder.

Can you show me the outliers?
I'll give you a hint, the season he broke in a young QB and joined a better conference in 2013 is one.
