A brief history of Neck (to the best of my memory):

The band was already playing it when I got into TGBFTL in 2008. I want to say it was banned for the first time in 2011. I remember my dad coming to a game from out of state in 2010 and asking "What is that song that they are saying STTDB?" and that was the first I heard of it, so people were saying it but it hadn't reached the band yet.

By 2011, students added the chant any time we played All Of The Lights which we started playing I think in 2011 (TGBFTL doesn't play this anymore) or Right Above It which we started playing I think in 2012. This is when all the "OMG THE BAND PLAYED NECK I SWEAR I HEARD IT" stuff started when in reality it was one of these other songs.

I think it was "officially banned" for the first time in the middle of 2012 because I remember at the bowl game practice we begged Roy King to let us play it and he told us that we weren't allowed, but we said we know about the ban we just want to play it for us here when we don't have an audience so he said sure. My last year in band was 2013 and in the second half of the season LSU tried to do this Tradition Matters campaign with OBJ and a few others that failed miserably. It lasted for I think the Bama game and that was it. We did play it in Ireland for the St. Patrick's day parade that March.

2014 to 2016, black hole in my memory. I have no idea if they played it or not. They did try it in 2017.

The last time it was played in Tiger Stadium was 11/25/17. I only know this because I still have a sticker in my man cave that one of my buddies made for our tailgate with a bunch of band alumni that said "The Band Played Neck" with the date on it and a quote from OBJ saying "I'll pay the fine." I've been to every game since then and it definitely hasn't been played.

The last time it was played publicly was when the band went to a football practice to play for the team. I think it was either 2018 or 2019. I remember a video but I don't remember which season it was for but Coach Orgeron was definitely in it.

Now, I asked a band member recently and they don't even have it in their music folders anymore. They haven't even practiced it in several years.

It needs to go back to the HBCU's where it came from. It isn't something that needs to be at Tiger Stadium. There are other songs with far more tradition that we don't play anymore and should. It is what made CF great. Leave all that piped in music and trashy rap to the NFL.
It is the death of LSU atmosphere and CFB by 1000 cuts. In 10 years the avg LSU fan will have never heard "Hey Baby" or "Hold that Tiger", etc. etc. Mic up the band and drown out the vulgar chants if that is the problem. TV drowns out the piped in music why does the stadium emphasize it?

As a result, after over 10 years of adding STTDB to every possible song,

This is why we have that Stupid DJ, and the band doesn't play much anymore!

Just because a song has been stuck in the folder for a while doesn’t make it a tradition. Is “Hey Baby” a tradition, or just an outdated song at this point? In the ‘80’s, the band presumably played modern tunes. In 2026, you should also play modern, albeit clean, tunes. Keep a few oldies in the folder.

It took a bunch of culture brawls to shed light on how bad tit is...but folks are coming around. Now, why it took so long to be appalled at folks chanting about sucking a Tiger dick is beyond me.
