when message board were created. This isn't anything new. It's basically a carryover from early text messaging when it used to take a long time to type things out on phones, so people started using acronyms for different phrases.

It's exasperated with easier to misspell names. God forbid someone misspelled the vowel soup that is Manierie. Pretentious internet goalies would come in droves to belittle any such offender.
