I've been going to LSU games for decades and i've never not gotten a ticket outside the stadium. I think the most I ever paid was $100 a ticket for Bama 2012. Most games, even in good times, are $40 or under. Rent a wins are less than $20. Hell i got 2 free tickets for Bama in 2014 just by putting a little time in looking.

I never sit in the upper decks. I look at these prices for season tickets and wonder why people do it? I guess if you inherited great seats from your granddad who has had them since 1958 or something that's one thing, but outside that it just makes no sense to me.

Supporting the school, some people have to buy them in the first place to scavenge them later.

There are only a handful of games I actually care to go to every year. I'll pas on Chattanooga and Troy every year because it's a no-win situation. Either you blow them out like you're supposed to or win ugly.

If people didnt buy the seasons tickets they you wouldn't be able to buy them for cheaper on the secondary market. So why are you complaining about it?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a creature of habit and love my seats...so I'm freaked out if I have to move. Last year for the USCe game when they closed the EU, I was "forced" to sit on the 50 yard like in the top row of the east side and was miserable the whole time!

Plus, I enjoy the hell out of a handful of regulars I've gotten to know since 2001 in my section. In a place as generally dumb and loud as Tiger Stadium can be, to have accidentally sat down next to a guy that tends to think and act so much like me when it comes to the football program was a wonderfully freak accident. Could have been terrible...

If you're cool being a gypsy and moving around, then I see your point completely. That's not for me though.

Maybe they have the means to purchase the tickets and they don't want to bother trying to find tickets to every game.

Maybe they buy them with the hopes of flipping them to make a profit.

Maybe they have been sitting in particular seats for 30 years and want to keep those seats.

Tons of reasons to buy them. Also, tons of reasons not to buy them.

i mean obviously but as i pointed out in the OP it's like literally flushing money down the toilet.

well thats a poor strategy

I sort of addressed that in my OP. Unless you have some really primo sideline seats between the 40's halfway up the lower bowl then you're still wasting money for a quality of seat you can easily replicate for less. I guess maybe if you have a bunch of other season ticket holders in your area that you're friends with?

I agree with the sentiment, but there are reasons.

- Guaranteed ticket(s) whenever you want to use them or give them to someone.
- You can't invite friends or business associates to a game at the last minute unless you have tickets.
- You want to know exactly what kind of tickets you have. You don't want to try to impress a guest and wind up in the nosebleed with the hoi polloi.
- TAF fees are tax deductible, which is important to some people looking to reduce their income tax bracket.
- TAF fees give you the conversational gift of simultaneously complaining about a screwy system that's rigged against the little guy AND passively bragging about your disposable income.

In short, it's about the same three benefits of any other conspicuous consumption: convenience, comfort and status.

Thanks for being a faithful supporter of Tiger Athletics, he said sarcastically.

You also failed to ask, why work? Because I can get food stamps and welfare payments and still watch TV.

You also failed to ask, why attend LSU? Because, I can go to a community college or smaller school for a fraction of the cost and still get an education.

Some people have pride in supporting their university. Money that I give for purchasing season tickets and paying TAF fees supports the athletic facilities, scholarships for the athletes and the general student population and provides the infrastructure that allows you to buy those small game tickets (or any athletic events) for less.

I would encourage you to take pride in LSU sports and support your university. You will feel better and you won't always feel like you are beating the system. If you are already a member of the LSU Alumni Association or TAF, then, good for you, but you can always do more.

I take great pride in supporting the State of Louisiana and the LSU system. I buy 8 season tickets because I enjoy LSU sports. If you can't afford 8, buy 1 or 2. Alumni before me that bought season tickets helped build this great university and I hope, in a very small way, to continue that tradition. I'm sorry you don't have that same belief. Geaux Tigers!

Because some people don't want to worry about hustling tickets the day of the game. They would rather enjoy tailgating.

I've done both, and finding tickets to a big game is a huge pain in the arse, despite what you say. Bama tickets have been tough to find in the past 5 years, most aren't giving them away

While your strategy makes sense, it is one that works well for you, b/c you essentially only have yourself to consider.

When you have young kids or older family members, there are many limiting factors.

Personally, I have a crew from NY and FL that come down every year for usually the game w the most difficult market, and getting seats together and coordinating that is a pain w/o season tickets.

I just can't understand why so many people are buying season tickets and then selling them as a season ticket package.
There must have been thousands for sale on the exchange before the season and I'm sure tons more on stubhub, etc.
Why buy and then not plan to go?

There was a time when tickets outside the stadium were tough to get.

There was a time when grassroots fans enjoyed the relationships developed over the years sitting near the same people year after year.

There was a time when you had built in rivals that came to LSU every other year and you travelled to their stadium every other year.

There were occasions when LSU actually played OOC national powers at home.

Unfortunately those times are long gone.

I enjoy having the same seat every game. Having the same neighbors as well. There's something nice about just knowing you have your seats, you don't have to waste time finding scalpers with good deals, etc. Not to mention having places to park every week, tailgate, etc.
