Sounds like trying to build in excuses. The attitude of some fans are weird. Like they are entitled to things and if they don't get what they want they stomp their feet on the ground and cry. Can't imagine where that entitlement attitude comes from....hmmmm......yep. it is the new America. WELCOME

Yes it's very true the Lsu fan base has become entitled. It's sad but true. Part of this is the fact that annually we play a neutral site opener vs an ooc ranked opponent. When we do that on such a regular basis it's like a beginning of season bowl and we pack out that game and the post season bowl that's much further away kinda gets left off.

So the simple fact is that Iowa fans are excited about playing LSU in the Outback Bowl, but LSU fans are not excited about playing Iowa in the Outback bowl. They day the matchup was announced all the LSU people indicated that this would be the case. One is free to speculate about what that means regarding the relative status of each program and its fan base. LSU is favored, but Iowa is a good team and could certainly beat LSU.

I dont think LSU fans are entitled. No one thinks LSU deserves to be playing in a BCS game. Spoiled is more appropriate. Its hard to get excited about the game and matchup.

Perhaps LSU needs a new losing streak. Short term impact would suck, but ultimately it would re-energize the fan base. Make them hungry again. Ticket prices would go down and good seats would be available.

Our fans were definitely a lot more fun back when we didn't feel so entitled and didn't take winning for granted. As far as our fans not showing up for the bowl game, it's a catch 22 situation. Staying away will force LSU to eat the cost of any unused tickets for the 2nd straight year. It will also increase the chances that the SEC will assign LSU to lesser bowls in the future, if we don't make the playoff.

If LSU was playing Iowa to BEGIN the season, rather than end the season, in this particular bowl game, would be a much different level of excitement for LSU fans.

Iowa is going to take 30,000+ fans to most bowls no matter who they're playing (50,000 if it's the Orange). We just travel well. Why not get out of the snow for a few days in late December/early January?

Not according to the report this morning. They still had 1,500 tickets left at the close of business yesterday.

But, yeah, more fans from Iowa want to go to the Outback Bowl than LSU fans. No doubt. I'd want to get out of that freezer they call home, too.

I was at the Cap One bowl against them and Penn State and while the LSU fans were numerous and noisy we were outnumbered in both games by yankees that had much further to go

Those midwestern dipshites come down in droves and go to Disney. They will mos def outnumber LSU fans.

Lets not make the mistake here that some seem to want to make. Fans might or might not be excited for the bowl game, but the players and coaches ARE and WILL be. From BOTH teams.

That excuse won't hunt.

To take this a step further

Not a bad thought but just not feasible.

Won't get much out of
(Ex) San Jose St. vs UNLV in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN.

Who will go see that?
IMO, There will always have to be some kind of tie ins to local conferences.

Even if played in Iowa City? or Chicago?

If anyone cannot get up for any game they should spend time doing other things, that includes fans, players and coaches.

I believe L M is as excited as anyone and his team will be ready to play.

LSU fans apparently don't care unless it is a BCS bowl, the fans nor team cared last year and that's why they lost. the fans wanted a better bowl game and they got it. Well apparently they don't care about this one either....

So a game vs a Top 10 team = don't care
A game vs another BCS conference team = don't care because it is Iowa

Yet if they win LSU fans will bitch about the coach and how the fans should have been at the game

This has not been true since the Oregon game. This fan base is quickly becoming UF West.

Make sure you come back to the board after the game. I don't see anyone 'pounding' LSU.

Sucks that the idea that "LSU doesnt travel, we take over" only applies to games we are excited about

Sorry but LSU only has so many fans who can afford to take the tkme off of work, and cough up the expenses to go to a bowl game they don't give a crap about.

People will make it work if they are excited about it.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time traveling during a holiday to watch LSU play Iowa even if the tickets and travel expenses were free to me, especially with it being on TV. I guess I'm a negatiger.

Face facts, unless LSU is playing in a BCS bowl it is a letdown after your in divison games include Alabama, Auburn and even A&M with the Heisman winner. Other conferences just aren't keeping up their end of the bargain with these automatic tie ins on who you finish in your conference. At the top half of the SEC you almost always will play a weaker team with your tie in unless you go to a BCS game.
