What's the deal with all the Cajuns-Tigers hate?
Because a lot of our fans don’t like the fact of any in state school trying to “challenge” LSU. The fact that UL is probably the closest in doing so (2nd in state in enrollment, nice new ballpark, top 10 attendance, top 20ish baseball and softball programs, and the naming issue) really bothers a lot of our fans.

There is still a wide gap between the two schools in most areas and most fans on both sides know that

Probably the best explanation I've ever heard.

I wouldn’t say a lot. Some yes, but I think this idea is greatly overblown.

That’s because when your father graduated from there it was USL. He has every right to do that. For you to still call it USL despite the name being changed to ULL in 1999 is just ignorant.

re: What's the deal with all the Cajuns-Tigers hate?
I have done business in Lafayette for years and this is largely based on oil industry related grants that LSU got and USL(name at the time) didn't. They have always regarded themselves as the best for oil industry related majors and they claimed that LSU used political pressure to get grants that they believe they should have gotten. These arguments really don't have merit since it wasn't just LSU vs USL, it was many schools from many states, mostly Texas, competing.

As far as the name, LSU could legally stop ULL from using UL immediately if they wanted since this has already been ruled on by the courts that they are not supposed to use UL.

re: What's the deal with all the Cajuns-Tigers hate?
As one poster said,it stems from Huey Long, who saddled the SLI with his alcoholic cronies as president.

I've mentioned this in other threads when this comes up annually, but another thorn in the side of UL is that the 60s Dr. Ray Authement realized that computers were the future so the school invested in a computer science program.

Our computer science program was integrated into student life. One of the benefits of it was that beginning in the 70s we would receive our next semester's schedule at the same time we received our grades from the previous semester. There was no standing in line, pulling cards, etc. Imagine how convenient that was for the students and the faculty.

Sometime in the early 80s LSU alum/legislators realized what was going on and got the legislature to strip ULL of it's PHd program in computer science and give it to LSU.

How would you feel if that had been done to your school?
ULL had the foresight to invest in what is now the most prominent technology in the history of the world, only to have it taken from them by a school that was late to the show.

I like LSU, grew up on LSU football, and my children are alumni. I always pull for them, except when they are
playing ULL.

I will add that I wish ULL would do away with its football program. It will never be able to compete with LSU. They should take the money and effort and invest it in basketball and baseball.

You know that LSU Vet school? Guess where it was first? You guessed it. SLI. And, of course, our banana republic state legislature decided to strip it.

Ok, you were on a roll until you posted this. Regardless of what baseball and basketball do, football still drives the financial bus. A sellout crowd at The Tigue last night (5,500) isn’t even close to the lowest crowd at Cajun Field in the Fall. Getting rid of football would totally hit the program of not only money, but also fan support and perception.

I believe it goes back to a baseball game years ago when Skip was still coaching. During one of the games between the two teams there was almost a bench clearing brawl. After that we didn't play them anymore unless it was in tournament play for a long time. Sorry I don't remember the year though

LSU fans genuinely think they are the only university or college in the state....Just amazing how the majority of LSU fans never, ever stepped foot on the campus, or enrolled at LSU....Come on....LSU fans are delusional....Delusional to a point that their ENTIRE LIFE revolves around what an LSU sports team did that particular day....

I root for LSU...But, every year it is a hard to put up with today's LSU fan...No class...No sportsmanship....

that would be nice if it were true but we have beaten them 22 times in a row and they haven't scored a touchdown. we shouldn't even play them anymore.

to see ohio state, usc, notre dame in tiger stadium again would be nice

I don’t hate USL. I don’t think most LSU fans give a shite about that school. I only realized that there was animosity when I met some USL fans talking shite about my school. I found it funny, because there is no real argument to be had. It’s like they think they are the red headed stepchild of colleges in LA.

When I was an undergrad I felt a lot of people around me were genuinely surprised by the hate from ULL fans. I always equated it to being in the LSU shadow and small town people's need for drama to be the sauce to a dry life
Duplication of the LSU-Tulane 70's/80's Football rivalry that continues on in baseball.

Same with Southwest Louisiana Junior College at Louisville. It makes their existence tolerable to beat LSU in anything.

That's why LSU should beat the crape out of the little people every time we play in any sport and move on.

Losing to SWLAJC@L or TU is just unacceptable.

Doesn't seem to bother all the docile, non-competitive little cheerleaders on here though.

re: What's the deal with all the Cajuns-Tigers hate?
There are several reasons why you have animosity between the schools.

1. Name Issue. We all know about that one.

2. Corruption within the state, taking programs from our university, and LSU adopting those same programs.

3. State refusing to have a med school, or law school at any public university in the state, except southern.
Examples,LSU was planning on shutting down the med school in Shreveport. LaTech wanted to take over the Med School in Shreveport, something came down it was told that in order for Tech to take over the Med School, that they would have to switch from the UL-System, to LSU-system and directly managed by LSU, ( Take a look at UAB, Bama shutdown there football program. Same system, Tech knows that why they never did it don’t trust LSU) So that is not going to happen. Same thing was said when Lourdes shutdown, and Louisiana was trying to start a med school, we could but it would have to be another branch of LSU med school and UL would be secondary in running the med school not going to happen.
ULM was smart they are getting a Med school but it’s privately funded and privately runned, only way you can do it in Louisiana.

4. LSU gets 1/3 or all state funding for Universities, The rest gets 2/3, funding is not distributed equally, we have scrap by, while LSU squanders millions.

5. To many Universities within the state, and I think it’s directly involves LSU, and for good reason it keeps the Universities fighting amongst themselves for funding, and it keeps each University athletic programs in check.

6 not allowing student fees, to go towards athletics.

It all boils down to this, University system will never be successful, because that is the system, and it needs to be reformed, but I think LSU wants it that way because it’s sole purpose is to keep LSU number one in the state.

Stuff that doesn’t even matter

1 LSU mascot- How in the world does a Tiger represents Louisiana, Louisiana and Tigers have nothing to do with each other, there is nothing unique about a Tiger, y’all tried to call yourself the Bayou Bengals. Y’all can say it’s from the Tiger Regiment back during the Civil War. That does not represent Louisiana

2. Colors Purple and Gold ok they come from Mardi Gras. Purple (Royalty,) Gold (dominance). Seriously is that what y’all stand up for at least Tulane green represents ( faith ).

3. The Campus looks like something out of Mexico.

That’s it

Could it be that you are alter and trolling. Let's see you start thread by asking question then throwing out something negative about maybe it's LSU fans on a LSU website. Mmmmmmm, could be?
