There isn't much difference to get into either. If someone can't get accepted into either school, they have bigger issues to deal with

The Cajun's need to focus on their BIG rival - McNeese State and keep LSU out of their minds and mouths.

I totally disagree with your statement and I will explain. When LSU played bama for the national title in '12 I was watching the game at Walkons and there was a table with about 6-7 ULL fans there wearing T-shirts that read; UL fans pulling for bama! That was just one incident but I've observed a lot of negatives on the part of ULL fans towards LSU. Most claim that LSU view ULL as their little brother. Nope ULL is not even a distant cousin to LSU. Just a lot of penis envy by ULL

As far as I know, this only started once Anthony Jennings transferred from LSU to UL.

I thought Jennings stayed in-state when he transferred? Didn't know he ended up going to Louisville.

My wife and in-laws are ULL grads, and all of their friends always give me hell about being a LSU alum. They always say it's the arrogance of LSU fans and mention funding. I personally am aggravated we lost last night, but it has to do more with losing to in-state schools than ULL itself; I was just as annoyed with losing to Southeastern. The whole little anointing themselves as "Louisiana" is somewhat annoying, as I don't believe they are above Tech and ULM athletically, but I honestly don't want them to lose unless they play LSU.

ULL thinks that since they beat LSU's midweek lineup that they are automatically on the same level in baseball now

My brother went to LA Tech and it's much the same. He demands that state gov't always favors LSU (despite us self-funding our athletics unlike ULL and I assume LA Tech) and officials in games always cheat so LSU will win. I just write it off as typical little brother jealousy.

One of my favorite movies is Casablanca- there's a scene where a minor villain says to your hero, "You really hate me, don't you?" and the hero responds, "I suppose if I thought about you I might."

That sums up how I feel about the other state schools; I rarely think of them but when I do it's not positive. Last night just gives me a news cycle to think of them.

C'mon man you cant be serious with that statement! What has ULL done athletics wise for LSU to remotely care. Oh shite my bad they won a trampoline title back in the '70's that wasn't sanctioned by the NCAA!

The frick? Did you miss the game thread last night? Pages of grown men bitching because the team and the fans at the game last night were excited to win. It was absolutely pathetic.

And I don’t get the “Lafayette people hate LSU” shite. I think 90% of the people I know in Lafayette love LSU. A lot of them make the trip down I10 on Saturdays. The only UL people I’ve seen that actually hate LSU are the kids that come from out of state or a couple douchbag Bama fans that every city has.

Like many other college baseball programs the gap isn't as large as it once was. Schools are putting money into the sport like never before.

Always seems that those arguments start because of an LSU fan pointing out that their name is incorrect.

Actually, they start it by writing their name incorrectly. There would be nothing for LSU fans to point out otherwise.

Honestly I completely disagree with this. Nobody in that fan base thinks they're on the same level as LSU this year in baseball.

The team batting average is almost lower than .200 ffs.

Pitching is solid though. Still early and a lot of baseball left. I predicted it would take a conference tournament championship to get into post season. Lucky for them they host it this year.

Because a lot of our fans don’t like the fact of any in state school trying to “challenge” LSU. The fact that UL is probably the closest in doing so (2nd in state in enrollment, nice new ballpark, top 10 attendance, top 20ish baseball and softball programs, and the naming issue) really bothers a lot of our fans.

There is still a wide gap between the two schools in most areas and most fans on both sides know that

A small, but vocal segment of the USL fan base hates LSU. LSU fans couldn't give too craps, which makes USL fans even angrier.

I never like when LSU loses, but my take away was Labas looked good for his 40 pitches.

Funny. I have made the correction sir. Thanks....I hope that is why it was getting down-voted. I was thinking people really don't know what sarcasm is anymore.

I'm as diehard a Cajun fan as they come, but I know enough to stay away from the argument except for just fun ribbing. The whole idea of Cajun fans hating LSU is a little exaggerated. At the same time, there are a few who sincerely do. I wouldn't put myself on that level but I will say this. Whether LSU wins or loses doesn't affect me either way in the same token of whether or not the Cajuns win or lose doesn't affect any of you. I think that's where the misconception comes in. Because there's a lot more LSU fans out there and LSU is promoted more greatly, I'm somehow supposed to care what they do. Well, I don't. And it's not a knock on LSU. But I didn't go or graduate from there. It's not my alma mater. So I have no allegiance to them. If the Tigers win, great. If they lose, oh well. Some people just don't understand that mindset in this state.

As far as the name thing, and I can see it in this thread, we brand ourselves as "Louisiana." And it bothers people. Some of you have posted just that. At the same time, it's for marketing and branding purposes. And I know. "You're trying to be something bigger than what you are." Newsflash: that's what marketing is. Perception 101. That's the point. At the same time, we are "little brother," "not a pimple on LSU's rear end," etc., but yet people still get paranoid when "Louisiana" pops up. If we are small time and minuscule as some claim, this wouldn't be a big deal.

Here's another thing. I enjoy trash talking with my LSU friends and family members. We do it all for fun. But what gets me, along with other Cajun fans, the most is when the biggest LSU trash talkers are the ones who've never stepped foot on LSU's campus outside of a sporting event. The "Wal Mart Tiger fans." They're usually the loudest, the most ignorant, and some of you will agree with me that they give your fan base a bad name. Unfortunately, the bigger the school, the more of those you get. See: Alabama.

One more thing. The politics.......yes, Huey Long promoted LSU at the expense of other in-state schools including us. And unfortunately, our backwards state has continued the cycle with incompetency. See: our yearly ranking in higher education. We, including LSU, are all paying for that. Because LSU was promoted with funding for so long, it even backfired on them because the school outgrew itself; and in the past 10 years or so had to cut faculty. And F King isn't making it much better. Nor is our current Governor with the fact he wants to limit coaches salaries from the like of TAF, a private foundation.

So fire away if you will, but that is my perspective on it all. I enjoy the fun trash talk; but it's safe to say that some people hang their hats on some of this a little more than what's necessary. Best of luck to the Tigers the rest of the way.
