My gut says Hurd on a short leash. But the pitchforks will come out if he struggles and we go down early. Early run support to take off the pressure of whoever has the ball will go a long way. Easier to throw strikes and pitch to contact with a lead against a lineup that can’t hurt you in bunches.

Bring the bats and it will all work out

Skenes for Game #2. Whether you win or lose Game #1 the second game is a must win. Stay in winner’s bracket or avoid elimination.

Hurd, Skenes, Floyd
I agree that keeping Hurd's momentum is key. We are a different team to beat in post season if he is good. Setting Hurd up for the super and CWS should be a top priority.
Relief pitching gets interesting if we struggle or lose any of the first 3 games. Who do you save for a possible 4th? Coleman starts, but will want a couple of good relief options available.

Is that what you would do, or what you think jay is gonna do?

I think this is what JJ will do

Guess he’s trying to setup his super regional rotation and potentially saving skenes if needed for monday

Will be extremely disappointed if he goes this route

Was thinking Hurd on Friday all week, but closer we get I lean Floyd. Do all you can to be in winner bracket on Sunday and someone has to beat you twice with depleted staff. Also hope that someone who relieves on Friday for a few pitches can throw Sunday. Leave skenes in on sat for as long as he can go to save bullpen.
Also sets super for Floyd and skenes going first 2 games
Friday - Floyd
Sat - skenes
Sun Hurd
Sunday game 2 Coleman or money

I looked back at JJ's history. He's only ever coached 1 team that hosted a Regional, 2021 Arizona. In that Regional, he started his Friday night guy Chase Silseth against the 4 seed GCU. For what that's worth.. I hope it's not Skenes tomorrow, but, there's precedent for JJ to start his ace against a 4 seed.
He also started Nathan Bannister(also staff ace) in 2016 in game 1, but they were a 2 seed that year.
My $.02 is:
Floyd - Fri
Skenes - Sat
Hurd - Sun

He was the Friday starter but he had the worst ERA in conference play of his 3 starters. He really didn’t have an ace and it seems he was mostly pitching backwards that year. I don’t think that situation really informs what he would do with a true ace.

Dang. Surprised to see this from you. You are usually pretty accurate. Makes me think Jay is nervous about Tulane. He said he was only focusing on recent weeks with his tape study. That said, you would think he would go Floyd before Skenes if he starts either of the two.
C'mon Jay - announce! This has me curious now.

This seems relevant. Tulane's offense played way above their heads in the AAC tourney. Do you assume they come back down to earth this weekend? Carmouche was unhittable over like 11 or 12 innings pitched last weekend. Do you look at a bad outing in March or focus on how he's thrown the last two times out? He strikes guys out, and that seems to be LSU's Achilles heel.
The worst-case scenario with this game is that Tulane remains hot at the plate and puts up a few runs early while your lineup struggles to figure out the lefty. Maybe pressing a bit for the postseason. Tulane can then throw every arm at you, even starters, to try to close out the game. Their only goal this weekend is to beat LSU.
The best way to prevent this would be throwing your best guy. I wouldn't do it, but I can buy the logic.

Floyd in game 1 for me. With our lack of pitching depth, you have to win games 1 and 2.
