Not talking about what Jay will do, only how you would approach it.

This will get shite on but I’m going bullpen game 1. Then the normal rotation of Skenes, floyd and Hurd.

If LSU doesn't win the first game in any situation in the post season we are a bit fricked. I would personally throw Hurd and give him a short leash. I know nothing about Tulane though so I'm going in a bit blind.

I'm kind of torn on this. On the one hand, it would be really nice to build off Hurd's last start, but on the other hand, I still feel like there's a 50% chance he comes out and doesn't have it and is out of the game by the 3rd inning. Money would be my next choice simply because I know he is going to throw strikes and challenge hitters.

Only 2 choices for me are Hurd and Money. I haven't decided for sure yet.

Not overthinking it.

Tulane: Hurd
OSU/SHSU: Skenes
Championship: Floyd
If necessary: Coleman

If LSU has to play 5 games, the train is off the rails meaning that LSU lost to the weakest 4-seed in the tournament or LSU lost a Skenes start.

G1 Hurd

G2 SKENES

G3 Floyd

G4 (if necessary) Johnny Wholestaff, assuming Coleman pitches at some point before this.

There is a chance we have to play 4 games.

Having said that, there is no reason to burn Hurd in Game 1 vs a team with an RPI in the 140's.

If I start Hurd, I might let him go 40 pitches and get him outta there so he could be available to start the "if necessary" game 4 on MOnday.

I would go -
HUrd 2 innings (40 pitches)
Money
Coleman

ANd piece it together from there.

Game 2 - Skenes
Game 3 - Floyd
Game 4 - If Nec - Hurd

This is what Jay will do. Essentially guarantee your first two victories then someone on their 4th pitcher has to beat you with Floyd.

Hurd - Game 1
Skenes - Game 2
Floyd - Game 3
Coleman - Game 4 if necessary

Depending on how our offense is doing in any of those matchups also determines which bullpen arms we use. I would like to combine Hurd and Cooper or Hurd and Money if our offense is putting up a lot of runs and leave Guidry, Herring, and Ack for games 2-4.

I’m confident Cooper and Money will throw strikes and get the W
I’m confident Skenes will have us in any game before he exits.
I’m not as confident we can close a close game that Skenes pitches without possibly having to use Hurd.
Hurd could possibly be used twice in the regional to close out Skenes and Floyd’s games.

I'd follow the blueprint that we've done every most recent successful year. Throw off, Skenes, Floyd. Given it is Tulane, I'd go wholestaff in the opener. A massive gift to get one of the weakest four seeds in the history of this format. The opener would probably be Coleman or Money.

Just out of curiosity, I went back and looked. In 2009 we threw Austin Ross in the opener, in 2017 we threw Poche who gave up 7 runs, only one earned.
