Well Wade and LSU basketball have won a more recent championship than baseball and to even being to try to compare the difficulty of the basketball and baseball tournaments and parity particularly relative to what Wade vs Mainieri inherited is asinine

Mainieri inherited Smoke's crashed corvette in 2007.

ETA: Also, what are we calling recent because LSU baseball won the conference regular season and tournament title in 2017 in addition to making the CWS finals.

Smoke went to Omaha twice and we were 7 years removed from a national championship and the bertman era was recent memory in a sport that has very little competition nationally.

Wade inherited a team that had a walk on tuba player as its starting center in the SEC.

LSU in baseball was a national brand that had a bad year. In basketball we were a punch line known for wasting Ben Simmons.

Paul has turned LSU baseball into a has been.

Wade has turned LSU basketball from a never was into a solid program.

Neat.

The 2006 team was the first LSU team to not make the regionals in I think 20 years.

Notice how most of the underclassmen from that team are nowhere to be found by 2008.

There's a lot of things to shite on Paul for now, but discrediting how quickly he turned LSU back around when he first took the job is one of the dumbest takes on this board... so congrats.

It’s a smarter take than trying to compare making the top 16 in baseball to the sweet 16 in basketball like you did.

Do you have downs?

My point was that expectations for basketball and baseball are wildly different.

Seriously, seek help.

Lsu baseball isn’t enjoyable anymore. It’s like the last several years of miles in football. More frustrating than fun. Watching other programs improve while lsu slips.

Basketball is starting to turn a corner. Wade makes it interesting.

You are correct

The young ladies and fellas on this site don't remember a night in March of 1986 when about five thousand fans went to Ryan Airport and stormed the LSU basketball team and Dale Brown as they exited the plane. It was a madhouse.

Everyone thought LSU was going to beat Louisville and Denny Crum but we came up short.

LSU was exciting even before Chris Jackson and Shaquille stepped on Campus.

It could be that way again. Paul Mainieri is on his way of crashing the baseball program. He is a lazy POS.

You are the one who made the comparison as well as bring up an absolute threshold of championships. Sweet 16>cws finals and arguably a championship. Wade makes a sweet 16 and the team is solid again next year the interest will flip short of Paul winning a championship because any moderate success at any school in college basketball outweighs just about everything in college baseball.

All you have to do is look at the PMAC from Brady’s good teams and see.

It took a ton of bad teams and massive inconsistency combined with the best decade in college baseball history

ETA I say this as a guy who favors baseball over basketball as a general rule

At LSU?

Keep a consistent NCAA tourney team, and it will happen naturally.

People seem to forget (or are too young to remember), LSU once had rabid fan support for basketball. It's why they call it the Deaf Dome.

Baseball popularity here is really just the result of some very strange series of events. The Lester Earl scandal and collapse of the basketball program under NCAA probation AND the Curley Hallman era of totally inept football happened at the same time, which coincided with Skip Bertman's baseball program winning the CWS almost every other year.
LSU fans were starved for a winning program, and baseball and Mike Henry's track program were the only things we had. Baseball is easier than track to tailgate and watch.

Check out any sports center during each respective tournaments. Check who is doing the telecasts halftime shows and post game shows of each tournaments.

Does your office do a cws pool? I’d bet there’s a March madness pool.

Which sport has dedicated coverage on network television.

Like I said look at the pmac during Brady’s good years and look at department revenues. Wade keeps us in the tourney yearly and making some sweet 16 runs basketball will take over baseball again. You can blame the marketing of the sport by ESPN or whatever. To a certain degree that’s true regardless though it creates a gravity that Paul would have to be winning championships year in year out to overcome and even then I’m not 100% sure it happens if we are routinely in the tourney

I would prefer to be successful in basketball over baseball by quite a wide margin. But, if you're giving me my choice of a Sweet 16 or a baseball national championship, I'm picking baseball 12 times out of 10.

Id say there are absolute fanatics like those who post on a message board feel this way. However the average fan who doesn’t just absolutely live and breathe college sports but flips on the tv on sportscenter etc. Maybe I’m wrong but takes a special bar in a non revenue sport like baseball to overcome a sweet 16 run. Minimum a championship appearance possibly even winning it and even then I’m not sure if that’s enough in the event that basketball is consistently good. The coverage of March madness is just so pervasive.

Florida fans would be a good gauge
