I was so happy it wasn't Bianco or O'Connor.

I think O'Connor will have success at MSU, especially since he can bring most of his top players over there with him. It's like combining the top talent of two teams when you do that. However, I am still glad it wasn't him.

I wanted Vitello or McDonnell and I am glad LSU got Jay Johnson over all of them.

He wasn’t on our radar.

But when he was selected, his resume seemed promising. The guy said to r right things during his press conferences.

We all got on board. But many fans remained uncertain.

Now, he’s become baseball’s Nick Saban. We expect to be in the CWS every year unless injuries decimate us.

I thought it was odd that alot of our fans kept clamoring for a younger guy with potential. Then we hired a younger guy with potential who had just been to omaha twice in 5 years at zona

Yup.

I really don't remember anyone being upset at the hire. Of course there had to be, but for the most part it seemed like a good hire. At least that's how I remember. I just know I was so relieved at who it wasn't and his CWS experience really sold me.

i didn’t know who he was, but after
looking into him I was excited

“it’s either a line drive or it’s a ball” was one of the first things I saw and the CWS runner up

I thought he had a chance to be good, but no way did I think he would build a dynasty, especially so soon.

Didn't know who he was. I've loved everything he's done. We got our Nick Saban again. This one ain't leaving.

He spoke at a gridiron club (RIP) luncheon and he reminded me so much of Saban. Talked about the process and making sure outs were productive and situational baseball. I don't think we will ever see an LSU player come out of a mound visit and throw to 3rd when a double play was in order.

Hester had an amazing story the other day on their morning show.

The gist of it was that way back when he was with the Chargers they did OTA’s or summer camp at San Diego, and one coach for their baseball team was coaching players at the same time he was in the facilities working out. Said the guys attention to detail and overall demeanor stuck out to him a ton.

Said that coach happened to be Jay Johnson. Continued to follow him over the next several years and when the LSU job eventually came open he mentioned him to Woodward, who already had him on top of his list. Didn’t remotely imply credit to the hire, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence and cool story.

Does anyone know the username of the former Major League pitcher who use to post on here? He was telling us it was Jay Johnson, but nobody really seemed to believe him even though he was credible. It just seemed so weird. I wish I could think of his name. He might have big an LSU commit that went pro instead, but still loves LSU sports. I could be wrong on this. I'd love to see his posting history about knowing it was Jay Johnson. His username was something like lsc500, idk like initials and numbers.

Brandon McCarthy. Something involving LFC (Liverpool) and LSU.

I heard Hester tell that story and thought it was incredible

Jay made it clear he lives and breathes college baseball, just on his comments on LSU (powerhouse) baseball alone.

He deserves and should get a raise.

I'd also like to see Alex Box get major upgrades, and I'd be willing to donate.

I remember the general mood being pretty positive with a lot of posters being right about who and what he is as a coach: great recruiter, cerebral with a deep knowledge of the game, great with pitchers. Seems to have been pretty accurate.

I saw Jay’s Arizona team play in the Super Regional against Ole Miss, and their bats lit them up. I thought, “if our bats have that same approach, he’ll do ok here.” The more I heard him speak in interviews, the more I liked him.

Thank you. This helps, but still struggling to find his username. Maybe someone else will remember it.

LfcSU3520 Is his name

Older posts say he was predicting Pat Casey but I think he had a Jay Johnson thread that got whacked maybe

Sort of same as when we hired Saban.

Was a big surprise and not sure if they would fit.

Thanks for remembering. Yeah, it must have been deleted. I definitely remember him saying it. It was so bizarre and out of nowhere. Moreso than Pat Casey. It was funny because he said it so casually like, "oh I heard it's the Arizona coach, but whatever y'all say."
