What were your expectations this team would look like going into the season?

About what I expected to be honest.
I figured the defense would be really good and that we'd have an offense with potential, but might start a bit slow.

I think Vegas had our win total at 8.5. I think we look like a 9 win team. I’m ok with that in year one.

I expected QB to be a little better, but I was always going to be okay with going 3-1 in September. Not really any complaints elsewhere. I expected OL to be our weakness but hopefully they are figuring it out

I was expecting 2-4 losses considering how much of an overhaul that was occurring. However if Lane continues to coach like this and stays here long term, he’ll have a national title at some point along with what I think will be consistent playoff appearances.
I can’t say when considering the rules are different than the last time we won one in 2019.

I had no expectations, I had no idea and really still dont know what we have in SL, our RB1 I had never heard of, our DL is deep but young.
The only position group that I had faith in was the DB group.
With question marks on the OL, WR, QB, RB, and keeping our LBs healthy I dont see how any super high hopes were based on anything but wishful thinking.
I liked the fact that we did not fold at Ole Miss and the teams that we were able to go ahead and put away, we did. These is my major takeaways so far, and is clear evidence to me that we are being coached better with a touch more quality depth than I thought.
The only position group that I had faith in was the DB group.

I was expecting 9-3 & being a playoff bubble team. The amount of significant injuries so early in the season have been concerning.

It’s just how it is now, athletes get more explosive but the body cant increase the threshold of potential injury at the same rate

I expected a 3-1 start with a lot of struggles as the new players acclimated.
I thought Leavitt would have some timing issues, but not as bad as he did early on.
I said I thought the defense would be the best we've had since 2013 which may be true; however, we've only played 1 good offense so far and struggled for a half.
So pretty close to my expectations.
Going forward I think best case is 10-2. Worst is 8-4. I am leaning more toward 10-2, but I'm still not sold on our OL and injuries are a concern.

A bit better than I expected. They’ve only really played 1 bad half of football and that was a unique circumstance.

My expectations are always the same. Play hard and play smart. Outside of one half they’ve done that.

It's honestly about what I expected. Had Sam practiced in the Spring I would have pegged us 10-2. But because he did not and he was coming off injury, I thought 9-3 and that's where I think we'll end up.
I think the talent is enough to compete with anyone on our schedule, that's what I expected and that's what the eye test tells me.
The Ole Miss loss was and is still a disappointment and will be at the end of the year still I'm sure. In fact I think when the year is done it will prove to be even more disappointing than in the moment, I think the Rebs have a mediocre defense at best.

So, we know this team is good when there is a talent gap and when they are playing at home. We know they are at worst competitive on the road against relatively even competition. The thing we don't know is how much this team will grow. I believe there is some extremely high potential with this team, but whether we reach that is dependent on Leavitt's progression and getting our 7s back healthy.
The main teams that scare me with the team we have are the teams that can put up points. Really good offense can erase really good defense at times, which will put pressure on our offense to score. Mississippi State and Alabama are, to me, the 2 best offenses remaining on our schedule. Getting both at home gives me confidence that our offense can at least match what those teams are able to put up, so I have some confidence there.
I believe our defense can do to Texas something similar to what Ohio State did to them for 3 quarters of play and what Georgia did to them a year ago. I really think we'll hold Arch Manning and that offense to 13 or less. They got red hot for a quarter of play this year, but that was the exception to the rule of how that offense has done against elite defenses.
Kentucky, Auburn, and Tennessee are all tricky spots for us. All on the road, and all have offensive minded head coaches that can scheme up big numbers even against good defenses. I believe we're better than all 3, but road games in this league are tough.
I have reason to believe we should win each game that remains on our schedule, which is why the result of "who this team is" relies almost entirely on Sam Leavitt. If this past Saturday turns out to be a building block toward efficient quarterback play, I think this team will finish 11-1. If there are still another couple games this year where his indecision and erratic behavior comes back out, then we may finish 9-3 or 10-2.

same.........but my 1 big concern is what the D and blake baker was able to put to sleep the other night. not saying we're some mobile qb wrecking machine now because Reed really does suck, but stopping the guy who's owned us 2 years in a row has me feeling this D is even better than i thought they'd be.
the offense is good when its clicking...........we need to click more. i'll chalk up the OM to that crowd and that environment for a lot of guys for the 1st time. we just need to settle down. once we have a settled down O, i think we will compliment the D tremendously and we will be a hard out for anyone on our schedule.

The way the team handled the first game was what I expected from all the preseason info, but also exceeded that.. The main question seemed to be qb1 and his recovery. The roster filled lots of holes and with quality players. I did not expect the team to win them all but to stay very competitive in all.

I expected 3 losses minimum because of the Oline, depth issues, and the first season of implementing a system.
Getting into the CFP would be a major accomplishment and hoping Kiffin can work some magic.
