What we're finding out this week is just how rotten LSU's football program is right now.

A lot of you are panicking and thinking Brian Kelly is at fault because players are transferring and recruits are decommitting.
But Brian Kelly just got here, and Brian Kelly has a 10-year contract. That means Brian Kelly can afford to view things from a long-range perspective.
He's not going to succeed or fail based on what the early signing day looks like next week. Nor is he going to succeed or fail based on this recruiting class or even the 2022 season.
It's entirely possible things might get worse before they get better.
But what this attrition tells you - and there will almost certainly be more of it - isn't that Kelly is the wrong coach for LSU. It tells you how wrong Ed Orgeron was.
If Orgeron was leaving Kelly a program poised to win, the kids would have snapped to when Kelly gave his first speech to them. They would have been excited to play for a guy who's won 54 games in the last five years and been in the playoffs twice in that span. They wouldn't have cared about his mannerisms or anything else, they would have been so starved to win championships they'd be ready to do whatever he says and to immediately put faith in him.
Because the buy-in is everything at this level of football and everybody understands that.
Most of the players get that, and most of them are buying in. But that won't make headlines.
That so many aren't merely illuminates the reason why Woodward was willing to part with $17 million to get Orgeron out of here. This is the Orkin man coming to your house and giving you the bad news about the termite infestation in the walls.
Yes, you can be shocked and upset in finding out just how bad things are. But a far more productive mentality is recognizing that at least now you know, and at least now you can begin fixing the problem.
I actually don't think this is a 3-5 year rebuild. I think Kelly will find a way to get LSU to a bowl game in 2022, and by 2023 I think he's going to be competing to win the West. Everything about the past two years looks like the end of Gerry DiNardo to me, and so far this looks like the beginning of Saban's term. Things might even have been more dire then, actually, and yet Saban won 8 games in 2000 and won the SEC in 2001.

It’s a purge
Part of the process
Everyone freaking out needs to chill

The purge hasn’t started with Kelly yet… a new coach doesn’t come in and purge without even going through a spring.
These are just guys who already were looking elsewhere.

As horribly coached as this team was, we were 3 last second losses (Bama, arkansas, and auburn) from being 9-3 and in a 3 way tie breaker situation for first in the sec west with Bama and Ole miss ffs. Kelly has an incredible foundation with a very realistic opportunity to make a playoff or ny6 next year.

DiNardo was a good coach with a good culture. He recruited well. He made some poor coordinator hires and refused to correct his mistakes, which cost him his job.
Saban inherited a good situation with a lot of talent.

Remember anyone leaving or transferring was part of a group that went 8-10 in the SEC the last two years!

After the past two years especially, it seems obvious that there were deep systemic issues growing with the program. Fixing it wasn't going to be as simple as replacing Orgeron and some assistants.

This. For anyone that needs convincing, look at the number of recruits that have either transferred out or never developed into anything. Look at the opt outs and long term “injuries”.
The rot runs deep and if LSU has to run 22 walk ins next year to clean it out then so be it.
ETA. This sounds like I’m blaming the kids alone. I’m not. Good coaches can get kids to buy in and work hard to contribute to the team and hold themselves and each other accountable to a common goal. That element is missing from way too many of LSU players.

that's what DiNardo wanted to do

Totally agree, roaches and rat droppings everywhere, moldy sinks, mildew on the ceilings, this is mostly the fault of an inept fake coach that was in no way qualified for that position, and he made off with $17m of LSU's money. Kelly is the one that has to fix all of it.

This happens with virtually all HC changes. Only a handful of coaches being retained, connections lost, people bail.
However you would hope LSU would have more goodwill with some players particularly from LA.

Anyone here who truly thought Orgeron was the guy to maintain a championship program long term at LSU is a moron. You may not think that you are a moron but morons usually don’t.

DiNardo did not have Woodward who has had his finger on the pulse of the team since 2019. If you think Woodward was just sitting in his office watching the implosion of Ed O from afar, that is probably not the case. I bet Woodward is giving a lot of info to Kelly to start with...

Damn this is the best post I've read on here in quite a while. Well done

BK doesn't mind cleaning up the mess that some other folks made, that's one of the reasons why he signed up to do.

He totally lost the locker room in his last couple of years.

you cant have your cake and eat it too. The new staff is not going to keep all of the old fan favorite coaches that were failing. Even some of the one that werent. BK cannot fix this "take the money and run" culture all alone. He has to have a staff thats fully bought into his process.
Raymond for example.... He was great, but we appeased him with money and bullshite titles for years to keep him on staff. You cant run that con forever. He wants something more and he clearly thinks he can get it in Gaynesville.
